Recall history

7 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

20V684000 · Tires

Reported: 2020-11-05 (November 5, 2020)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020 Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT5, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse vehicles and 2020-2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. The vehicles may have been manufactured with Continental tires that were overcured.

Consequence: Overcured tires may experience a carcass break in the sidewall resulting in a sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation which could lead to partial or full tread/belt loss. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect vehicles and replace tires that have DOT number and production mold number combinations identified by Continental, free of charge. The recall began December 17, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N202319030.

20V792000 · Seat Belts:Critical Fasteners | Seat Belts

Reported: 2020-12-17 (December 17, 2020)

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Yukon XL and 2020-2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The seat belt brackets may not be secured to the seat frame in the front-row center seating position.

Consequence: If a seat-belt bracket is not secured, the seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in the front-row center seat position, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect left-side and right-side front-row center seat-belt bracket attachments and reassemble it correctly as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 26, 2021. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N202314670.

Incorrect bolts may have been used at one or more fastening locations to secure the seat belts to the vehicle. If an incorrect bolt was used, the seat belt may not be properly attached to the vehicle.

Consequence: If a seat belt assembly is not properly attached to the vehicle, the seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the suspect bolts, free of charge. The recall began January 29, 2021. 21V985000 · Tires:Temporary/Emergency Spare Tire

Reported: 2021-12-16 (December 16, 2021)

General Motors (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 vehicles equipped with certain accessory road tires and a 17" spare tire. The 17" spare tire provided with the vehicle is not compatible for use with the accessory wheels, which can cause the anti-lock brake system (ABS) to not function properly under certain conditions.

Consequence: An ABS system that does not function properly can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will provide a new 17" spare tire and wheel assembly that is compatible with the accessory wheels, free of charge. Dealers will also apply a new spare tire information label, and provide owners with an owner's manual insert clarifying which spare tire to use with the accessory road tires and with the 17" original tires. The transmission control valve may fail and cause the rear wheels to lock-up.

Consequence: Rear wheel lock-up can increase the risk of a crash.

I do not have an official communication from the dealer who is servicing my vehicle. However, they have had my vehicle for almost 3 weeks and they tell me that the engine has failed and needs complete replacement. They said the engine lost compression and quit running, it now cranks and does not start. Although the engine has not been disassembled we believe the point fo failure to be in the rotating assembly of the bottom end of the engine.

Rough idle that is noticeable at stops and low-speed conditions. Transmission shifting problems, specifically harsh or delayed shifts when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear during deceleration. I received a notice of a recall for a known problem with GMC transmissions. it is very well known that these transmissions lock up and cause problems with braking and can cause the vehicle to slide off the road when the tires lock up. it also causes hard shifting, which I have experienced. GMC said they will not fix the transmission, they instead will add a device to monitor the transmission, so when the transmission locks up and causes an accident, it will let me know that it was the transmissions fault!!! How is this legal? they will let me…

My steering wheel started vibrating vigorously, a clanking sound started under the hood somewhere, and none of my safety features worked after.. Cruise Control, Vehicle Collision Control, Vehicle Gap sensors, etc.. The vehicle is currently at the dealer being looked at.

Driving the car it started backfiring and then the ESC light came on and the car engine seemed to become erratic as well as steering and braking error messages and the check engine started blinking. Very scary before I got it pulled over and very thankful I wasn’t on the highway etc. I’m seeing all the issues online sounds like the supposed fixes for the 2019 models having issues aren’t solving the problem. I bought mine in April and 4 months later it’s become unreliable.

While driving home from work around 6 am, my car had multiple warning lights and warning messages come up all of a sudden. Immediately after that I lost my power brakes and steering and was not able to control my car at 40 mph. I was lucky the light I passed was green and there was no other traffic. I was able to bring my truck to a stop after more than a quarter mile by putting all my weight on the brake pedal. The truck was towed to the dealer and has been there ever since.

Transmission shifting is at times confused causing the vehicle to jump forward shifting to first gear. It pushes your vehicle 2-5 miles an hr faster when slowing down. The transmission also does the opposite when letting off the accelerator, shifting fast to a lower gear slowing the vehicle down quickly in a jerking motion at times. I have an 8 speed transmission. GMC dealer is replacing my torque converter, stating this may fix the issue, but it is a safety concern.

L87 engine problems. I have had failed lifters, on top of transmission issues and a current oil consumption issue where I have to add two quarts of oil (sometimes more) without any indication of low oil. I took my vehicle into the local dealership and the technician asked if I had gotten any low oil indicator and I stated no. He proceeded to tell me it had little to no oil in it. Imagine this at highway speeds and sudden engine seizure.
