Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

20V668000 · Power Train:Automatic Transmission

Reported: 2020-10-29 (October 29, 2020)

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Chevrolet Cruze and Buick LaCrosse, 2018-2020 Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Terrain, 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, 2019-2020 Buick Encore, Buick Enclave, Cadillac XT4, Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Acadia, and 2020 Cadillac XT6 vehicles. The start/stop accumulator endcap may have missing bolts.

Consequence: Missing bolts on the start-stop accumulator endcap could result in a transmission oil leak and may progress to a loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of fire.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the start-stop transmission accumulator and replace it if any bolts are missing, free of charge. The recall began December 15, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Buick Customer service at 1-866-608-8080, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N202313440.

23V339000 · Child Seat:Vehicle Latch Anchor

Reported: 2023-05-11 (May 11, 2023)

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The four rear-seat lower child seat LATCH anchorage bars may have excessive powder coating, which could prevent a child seat from being installed with the anchorage bars. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."

Consequence: The inability to install a child seat with the LATCH anchorage bars could result in an unsecured child seat, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy: Owners are advised to install child seats using the vehicle's rear seat belts until the remedy is complete. Dealers will inspect the latch anchorage bars, and remove and replace the finish, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 2, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N232403240.

Got out and walked around the back to see it completely shattered. It just exploded and every inch has a crack or chip, even all asking the edges of the glass. I lifted the tail gate to see if a rock was thrown by chance and a chunk fell into the car. No rock was found. It simply shattered. The temp today was low 60’s on May 3rd, 2026 here in Ohio.

Slowed down from coming off of the highway to turn into the gas station and couldn't slow down. The brakes FAILED. Was trying to pump them and was able to come to a forecful stop, nearly colliding with the car in front of me and then again at the gas pump. Car had a failed vacuum pump at 65,000 miles. If this happened during normal rush our, my kids and I would have been sandwiched between two cars. Fatal flaw that clearly GMC already knows about. The Terrain should be included in the recall.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious and dangerous brake failure involving my 2020 GMC Terrain SLT with approximately 150,000 miles. I am a [XXX] resident. While commuting to work in [XXX], my GMC Terrain experienced a sudden, catastrophic failure of the brake vacuum pump while traveling at highway speeds. When I attempted to slow down for the exit, the brake pedal instantly became extremely stiff and nearly impossible to depress. I realized I had suffered an absolute loss of power braking assist. To avoid a high-speed collision with heavy highway traffic, I was forced to deliberately steer onto the roadside rumble strips, relying on tire friction to slow the vehicle down. T…

The vacuum brake pump exposed and parts went into the engine. The mechanic got all the parts out but now engine has low compression and needs a new timing chain. This is over $3,000 so far. Gm recalled other vehicles with the exact same pump ? Why not the terrain.

As I tried to find a safe place to stop, the vehicle went into limp mode and shut down in the middle of the road. The dealership said the issue was the vacuum pump which caused the timing chains to break. There have multiple recalls for this exact issue but my car is not on the list. My manufacture warranty ended on 5/21/2025. When I spoke to a GM representative I was told there was nothing they can do b…

As I was driving on the highway in New York on Route 17 south near exit 111, I tried to accelerate but when I did the car went slower and the check engine light and traction control lights came on. I was right in front of a huge truck and thank God I was in the right lane that I was able to quickly get on the shoulder and turn the car off. I was able to make it to where I was going, but it was very nerve wracking. I took the car to the dealer service center and was told that it was probably a fuse issue. It turns out my entire engine has to…

I just purchased this vehicle about 2 weeks ago, and was driving through the fog/cold weather and my check engine light came on. Went to O'Reillys and had them check the code. Came up as P0299 (My car was telling me that the engine power was decreased) I had a loss of power I could feel while driving as well. The code said turbo under boost. After I got back into town and the weather was warmer and no fog was present, the turbo started working again. I brought my vehicle into the dealer where I bought it from and they took it to their mechanic …

In September 2024 i was driving down the freeway and my car shuttered like the transmission was slipping. I then proceeded to get over into the right hand lane incase i needed to pull over thankfully, because then i lost use of my breaks, and then my ability to accelerate and steer. Then my car just shut off and would not stop. My vacuum pump just broke with no warning, it has been replaced and my car still won't start, it's going on 5 months now and they still can't figure out why.

Vehicle stalled while stopped in middle lane during rush hour traffic. Vehicle would not start, and could not be put in neutral to be pushed to side of road. The engine "Auto Stop" feature can have enough of a delay to allow the accelerator to be pressed as the engine starts causing it to lurch forward rather than accelerate smoothly. It also can cause a delay when pulling out into heavy traffic. There is currently no way to temporarily or permanently defeat the system on this GM model according to GM service department. Though I am sure it is operating as designed for certain owner driving styles and traffic conditions this can be a serious hazard. Car makers should be required to either disable th…

Driving down the road at 40mph when the car shifts to park, the brake and steering wheel lock up and the car won’t accelerate. I had to pull over because I almost crashed due to the abrupt shift. Once pulled over I tried to restart the car but once off and back on it wouldn’t allow me to shift or drive it. The steering wheel and brake remained locked. It has happened several times over the past week.

The engine in my 2020 GMC Terrain is consuming oil at an alarming rate, burning through a full supply within one hour of operation. This excessive oil consumption has repeatedly caused significant damage to the coils and spark plugs, rendering them ineffective within 24 hours. The GMC mechanic at Jim Ellis Buick GMC diagnosed the problem as internal damage to the pistons, which they state requires a f…
