Owner report 10990759 · 2017-05-20 (May 20, 2017)

OUR GRAND DESIGN SOLITUDE 310GK WAS MANUFACTURED IN SEP 2016. THE LCI/LIPPERT AXLES LEAKED GREASE OUT THE BACKSIDE PAST THE LIP SEAL AND GOT ALL OVER THE BRAKES AND MAGNET. NOTHING WRONG WITH THE LIP SEAL. SUSPECTED CAUSE IS OVERFILLING WITH GREASE DURING MANUFACTURING. IF YOU HAVE A GRAND DESIGN ANY MODEL MADE IN THE LAST THREE YEARS YOU BETTER PULL YOUR BRAKE DRUMS AND INSPECT. HAVE LOTS OF SHOP TOWELS...IT MAY BE A MESS. LUCKILY I WASN'T COMING DOWN SOME MOUNTAIN WITH GREASE ALL OVER MY BRAKES, SOMEBODY MAY HAVE BEEN KILLED.

Reported: 2020-08-28 (August 28, 2020)

Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2017-2021 Solitude recreational trailers. The liquid propane (LP) supply line that runs through the exterior lower refrigerator compartment may contact the burner tube of the refrigerator, possibly damaging the line and causing an LP gas leak.

Consequence: An LP gas leak increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Grand Design will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the LP supply line for damage, replacing it as necessary. All lines in the vicinity of the burner tube will be wrapped in a thermal foil heat barrier material, then secured away from the burner tube of the refrigerator with additional P-clamps, free of charge. The recall began September 17, 2020. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design's number for this recall is 910021.

While towing on I-75 at 65 MPH, the driver's side front storage doors came open. These doors had been shut, locked, and checked before departing. They were secured again and remained closed at a lower speed. Examination revealed two design flaws. First, they are side-opening overlapping doors. It did it on the first trip after purchase, and was addressed by dealer but continued to occur. Was again checked by manufacturer two years later, latches adjusted, continued to occur. I ended up using packing tape on the doors to help secure. BOUGHT NEW, AFTER 6 MONTHS OF USE THE BRAKES FAILED. THE LIPPERT AXLES ON THE COACH HAD FAILURE ON THE SEALS AND COATED THE BRAKES WITH GREASE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ON A 16,000 TRAILER WITH NO BRAKES. LIPPERT KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON ALL OF THE TRAILERS WITH THEIR AXLES. MOST OF THE GRAND DESIGN COACHES ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM
