03V092000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Brake Fluid Low Warning: Lamp

Reported: 2003-03-12 (March 12, 2003)

CERTAIN MOTOR HOME CHASSIS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 105, "HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEMS." THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR MAY NOT FUNCTION AS REQUIRED BY STANDARD.

Consequence: IN SOME OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR WILL NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE IGNITION IS IN THE START POSITION OR FOR A LOW BRAKE FLUID CONDITION, IF THE BODY BUILDER RELIED SOLELY UPON FORD'S IVM COMPLIANCE STATEMENT FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE BRAKE WARNING LAMP CIRCUIT. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS BEGAN MAY 1, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT GULF STREAM AT 1-574-773-7761.

DOMETIC WILL REPAIR THESE REFRIGERATORS BY INSTALLING A SECONDARY BURN HOUSING, A THERMAL FUSE, AND A MELT FUSE FREE OF CHARGE. DOMETIC HAS RETAINED STERICYCLE INC. TO MANAGE THIS CAMPAIGN. WENT OUT TO START THE MOTOR HOME ONE DAY AND THERE WAS A CLANKING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE. CALLED THE SHOP AND THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE IN. THEY REMOVED THE ENGINE AND FOUND THAT COOLANT OR FUEL HAD ENTERED THE CYLINDER AND CAUSED THE ROD TO BEND, THE PISTON TO BREAK, AND SCORED THE CYLINDER BLOCK. THE WHOLE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR

GULFSTREAM RV YEAR 2002 (BODY IS A 2001); APPROX 11,000 MILES. I WAS APPRXOIMATELY 30 MILES SOUTH OF GREEN BAY , WISCONSIN WHEN A COUPLE IN A WHITE SEDAN FLAGGED ME OVER. THEY TOLD ME THAT ONE OF MY RV WINDOWS HAD FLOWN OUT AND HAD SMASHED IN THE ROADWAY. FORTUNATELY, THEY SAID THAT THE FLYING WINDOW HAD NOT HIT ANY CARS AND WAS SMASHED SO THOROUGHLY THAT THERE WAS PROBABLY LITTLE LEFT TO BLOCK ANY TRAFFIC. I CALLED GULFTSTREAM MANUFACTURER AND THEY SAID SINCE IT WAS OVER ONE YEAR OLD THAT THEY HAVE NO LIABLILITY. (THE WINDOW MANUFACTURER …

FORD RECALL 05S28, I CONTACTED SEVERAL FORD DEALERS LOCATED IN THE SAN ANTONIO AREA DURING SEPTEMBER AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE AND THEY ALL INFORMED ME THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE TO EFFECT THE REPAIRS DETAILED IN THE RECALL. THEY ALSO REPORTED THAT PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN JAN 2008. I RECENTLY CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERS AGAIN AND NOW THEY TELL ME THAT PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN MARCH 2008. IT SEEMS THAT EITHER THE DEALERS DO NOT WANT TO COMPLETE THE RECALL REPAIRS OR THAT FORD HAS NOT MADE THE NECESSARY PARTS AVAILABLE. A FORD S…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
