Recall history
6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
07V508000 · Visibility:Rearview Mirrors/Devices:Exterior
Reported: 2007-10-30 (October 30, 2007)
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED INCORRECTLY POSSIBLY LEADING TO THE MIRROR GLASS DETACHING FROM THE MIRROR HOUSING.
Consequence: IF THE MIRROR GLASS IS LOST, THE DRIVER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SEE TRAFFIC APPROACHING FROM THE REAR INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE MIRROR MATERIALS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 12, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HINO AT 1-248-648-6490.
NHTSA campaign record ↗08V195000 · Suspension:Front
Reported: 2008-04-30 (April 30, 2008)
HINO IS RECALLING 16,805 MY 2005-2008 NA6J, NB6J, NC6J, ND8J, NE8J, NJ8J, AND NV8J TRUCKS. THE TWO VERTICAL RIGHT/LEFT SIDE FRONT SPRING BRACKET BOLTS WERE NOT TIGHTENED PROPERLY DURING THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS. THIS MAY CAUSE INCREASED STRESS ON THE SPRING BRACKET WHICH CAN LEAD TO CRACKING OF THE BRACKET.
Consequence: THIS COULD REDUCE STEERING CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE VERTICAL FRONT SPRING BRACKET ATTACHMENT BOLTS ON RIGHT/LEFT HANGER BRACKETS AND RE-TORQUE ALL ASSOCIATED BOLTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HINO AT 248-699-9300.
NHTSA campaign record ↗08V471000 · Power Train:Driveline
Reported: 2008-09-18 (September 18, 2008)
HINO IS RECALLING 1,195 MY 2007-2009 NV8J TRUCKS. DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, THE PROPELLER SHAFT BOLTS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY TIGHTENED DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS.
Consequence: IF THE BOLTS WERE TO LOOSEN, IT COULD CAUSE A VIBRATION IN THE DRIVELINE. IF THIS VIBRATION WERE IGNORED, THE PROPELLER SHAFT COULD SEPARATE FROM THE MATING FLANGE. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND/OR RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PROPELLER SHAFT BOLTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 14, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HINO AT 1-248-699-9300.
NHTSA campaign record ↗08V613000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine
Reported: 2008-11-24 (November 24, 2008)
HINO IS RECALLING 3,836 MY 2008 ND8J, NE8J, NJ8J, AND NV8J CLASS 6 AND 7, CONVENTIONAL CAB, MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPED WITH J08E-TV OR J08E-TW ENGINES. THERE IS AN IMPROPER SHAPE OF THE SUPPLY PUMP COUPLER LOCATED BETWEEN THE SUPPLY PUMP AND THE AIR COMPRESSOR. THE COUPLING MAY CRACK, THE GEAR TRAIN AND VALVES OF THE ENGINE COULD BREAK, AND THE ENGINE COULD STOP RUNNING.
Consequence: THIS WOULD DISABLE THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM, STOP THE SUPPLY OF AIR TO THE AIR TANK, AND MAY RESULT IN INSUFFICIENT BRAKING POWER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE COUPLING. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 5, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HINO AT 1-248-699-9330.
NHTSA campaign record ↗10V154000 · Engine And Engine Cooling
Reported: 2010-04-15 (April 15, 2010)
HINO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 NV8J TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH ALLISON 3000 RDS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE DRIVE COUPLER BOLTS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY TIGHTENED AT THE FACTORY DUE TO THE INCORRECT TOOL POSSIBLY BEING USED DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS.
Consequence: IF THE DRIVE COUPLER BOLTS WERE TO LOOSEN IT COULD CAUSE A VIBRATION IN THE DRIVELINE. IF THIS VIBRATION WERE IGNORED, THE DRIVE COUPLER BOLTS COULD SHEAR AND THE COUPLING BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND TORQUE CONVERTER WOULD NOT TRANSMIT POWER. THIS ULTIMATELY COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
Remedy: HINO WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 9, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HINO AT 1-248-699-9330.
NHTSA campaign record ↗12V555000 · Electrical System:Wiring | Electrical System:12v/24v/48v Battery:Cables
Reported: 2012-12-03 (December 3, 2012)
Hino is recalling certain model year 2005 through 2013 medium duty trucks, models NA6J, NB6J, NC6J, ND8J, NE8J, NJ8J, NF8J, and NV8J, manufactured from August 18, 2003, through November 16, 2011. Over time, the main B+ circuit from the battery to the starter could potentially short to ground due to wear that accumulates as a result of interference between the B+ circuit and its convoluted tubing sheath.
Consequence: If the B+ circuit shorts to ground, it may lead to a fire.
Remedy: Hino will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The recall began on January 17, 2013. Owners may contact Hino at 1-248-699-9390.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2020: 0 complaints · 2021: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |

| 2020 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2021 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
