17V397000 · Seat Belts

Reported: 2017-06-23 (June 23, 2017)

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018 Honda Odyssey vehicles. Consequence: If in the event of a crash, the seat belt cannot restrain the occupant they have an increased risk of being injured.

Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the third row center seat belt to make sure that it has the correct tongue, replacing the seat belt, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 31, 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is KF7.

Braun Corporation (Braun) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Honda Odyessy vehicles modified to be equipped with an in-floor wheelchair ramp conversion. VEHICLE IS PROHIBITED FROM SHIFTING TRANSMISSION OUT OF PARK WHEN ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. IF VEHICLE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND WILL NOT RE-START AND VEHICLE IS IN UNSAFE LOCATION (I.E. IN A ROADWAY), THE PUSH-BUTTON TRANSMISSION PROHIBITS SHIFTING THE CAR TO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE ROADWAY OR TO LOAD ON A FLATBED TOW TRUCK. THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IF THE VEHICLE IS PROHIBITED FROM BEING MOVED IF IT IS UNABLE TO START THE MOTOR BUT THE VEHICLE STOPS IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS LOCATION (RAILROAD TRACKS, INTERSECTION, ETC).

WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE THIS MORNING AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT ENGAGE. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE WHILE MAKING A GRINDING/SLIPPING SOUND. I WAS GOING STRAIGHT, LESS THAN 5 MPH. I RELEASED THE BRAKE AND REAPPLIED QUICKLY (PUMPED THE BRAKES) BEFORE BRAKES FINALLY ENGAGED. THIS CAUSED ME TO COME VERY CLOSE, ALMOST HITTING THE PARKED CAR IN FRONT OF ME IN THE PARKING LOT. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS FULL AND THERE WAS NO APPARENT FLUID ON THE GROUND BENEATH MY CAR.

I have a 2021 HONDA Odyssey ,40K miles, some lights on about few months ago, then i went to dealer on June 29,2026. I paid for a dealer diagnoses, they told me is the VSA modulator faulty. I don't believe that is over 36K miles warranty , so i search it on Google, shows Honda had some recall on different model and year car with the VSA modulator, so i think we must check it ,if on odyssey need recall it too.

Was watching news on other Honda models and the emergency break system going off erroneously. This has happened with my car as well. It doesnt appear breaks will engage but the light will flash indicating to break even though there are no cars or objects in front of me. I have not had it inspected and waiting for first oil change to do so.

I always do a full undercarriage inspection of new vehicles we purchase, even though I am in my 60's. When inspecting this new Odyssey there was unusual amounts of rusting throughout both front wheel hubs. This also was a problem on our 2014 Honda Cr-V we also purchased new. They require a coating on them for brake and steering systems safety. When this rust spreads to brake and steering mechanisms mounted to these hubs....big issues.

Observed repeatedly while operating at highway/interstate cruising speed, with adaptive cruise engaged: any changes in road texture - concrete to blacktop, between different types of blacktop or concrete, separation joints, etc - such as when crossing a bridge, crossing state lines, entering open-road toll plazas, etc - results in a sharp lifting of the throttle and at times will also automatically engage the brakes. This results in rapidly and unexpectedly cutting speed by 10-15 mph before automatically resuming set speed 1-2 seconds later. …

Failure of the Front windshield mounted monocular camera from overheating causes all advanced driver assistance systems to shut down such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, etc. This is a very common occurrence in not just the Honda Odyssey, but other Honda models as well. A new part can be anywhere from one to two thousand requiring dealer calibration. The heat from the sun, the location of the monocular camera and possible contribution from replaced non-OEM windshields may contribute to the overheating. With…

When idle stop is activated, car will often stall on attempt to restart. Car can then not be started for 5-10 seconds. If the car does not stall, it will often hesitate 2-3 seconds before the engine restarts, leading to multiple near-miss accidents on turns. Electrical warnings will often flash after idle stop, such as "sliding door problem," "collision mitigation malfuction," "anti-theft system malfunction," etc. Battery has been replaced twice with no other remedy offered while in or out of warranty.

ON THE US 2018 HONDA ODYSSEY MODEL, THERE IS NO LOW WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID WARNING. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS I FOUND THIS OUT ON A SLOPPY, SALTY WISCONSIN INTERSTATE NEXT TO A SEMI WITH MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE VEHICLE.
