Reported: 2021-01-14 (January 14, 2021)

Braun Corporation (Braun) is recalling certain 2018-2021 Braun-modified Honda Odyssey vehicles. The fuel tank assembly installed by Braun may be susceptible to the fuel tank overfilling into the charcoal canister. If the charcoal canister fills with a sufficient amount of fuel, fuel may leak out.

VEHICLE IS PROHIBITED FROM SHIFTING TRANSMISSION OUT OF PARK WHEN ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. IF VEHICLE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND WILL NOT RE-START AND VEHICLE IS IN UNSAFE LOCATION (I.E. IN A ROADWAY), THE PUSH-BUTTON TRANSMISSION PROHIBITS SHIFTING THE CAR TO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE ROADWAY OR TO LOAD ON A FLATBED TOW TRUCK. THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IF THE VEHICLE IS PROHIBITED FROM BEING MOVED IF IT IS UNABLE TO START THE MOTOR BUT THE VEHICLE STOPS IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS LOCATION (RAILROAD TRACKS, INTERSECTION, ETC).

I DID NOT HAVE AN AIR BAG INCIDENT. I BOUGHT A 2015 HONDA ODYSSEY TWO WEEKS AGO. I READ THE NYT ARTICLE TODAY, AND CALLED HONDA TO FIND OUT WHETHER THE AIR BAGS INSTALLED IN MY CAR ARE TAKATA. HONDA DECLINED TO TELL ME, STATING THAT THEY DON'T GIVE THAT INFORMATION TO CONSUMERS UNLESS THEIR SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO RECALL. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE ISSUES LEADING TO THE RECALLS SEEM SHROUDED IN NON-DISCLOSURE, AND THAT CONSUMERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND OUT INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR VEHICLES. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW/NORMAL SPEED ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD, I WENT OVER A GENTLE SPEED BUMP AND ON THE WAY DOWN, THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR STRUCK WHAT I BELIEVE IS PART OF THE ROADWAY. IT WAS A MINOR BUMP - BUT SOME OF THE FRONT AIRBAGS TO DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED ALONG WITH BOTH KNEE AIRBAGS. THIS WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED SINCE WE WERE DRIVING AT NORMAL RESIDENTIAL SPEEDS AND SLOWED FOR THE SPEED BUMP. AT THIS SPEED, WHATEVER IT STRUCK ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT.

I was pointed away from him so I let the car coast out of his way but the car literally turned the wheel and fought me as I tried to veer left out of the ma…

I was driving in light snowfall when several alerts notifying me that the radar sensor was not working. This is common in snow fall. Later I cleared off the radar unit cover (The Honda logo on the front of the car). The alerts remained. I took it to the dealer and they dubiously told me it was "damaged by snow". This is impossible. It was light snow. There was no collision or impact. This device should be durable. It has no moving parts. But Honda wants me to believe that it simply stopped working from driving in a light snow. They want $1300 t…

The VSA modulator has repeatedly failed. When it fails, all of the safety systems report errors - air bags, ABS brakes, high beams, traction control, blind spot detection, parking sensors, etc. Additionally, the power sliding passenger doors and tailgate will not open, even manually. I have taken it into Honda dealerships on 3 separate occasions. On 6/14/21 (vehicle mileage 7,453) they cleared the error codes and reset the system and reported it was fixed. On 2/26/2022 (vehicle mileage 21,077) it happened again and they reported the VSA mo…

After a slight rain, the error of Radar Obstructed is being displayed. Can’t get this error removed or fixed. After searching more I found out that: 1. Honda has a defective design in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) of all Honda Odysseys, models 2018-2023. 2. Namely, Honda has placed the RADAR behind the large HONDA emblem on the front grille. This causes the radar to give a "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning, which disables all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in the car (Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward…

I am writing to urgently bring to your attention a critical issue plaguing the driver assist systems in Honda Odyssey 2018+ vehicles. Despite meticulous maintenance and adherence to manufacturer guidelines, I have encountered a persistent and alarming problem that appears to affect numerous other vehicle owners, as evidenced by online forums and discussions. The issue initially arose during a rainstorm, where I received a warning message stating, "Some Driver Assist Systems Cannot Operate: Radar Obstructed." Despite the weather clearing and th…

2021 HONDA ODESSEY LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING 6 TIMES. I ENDED UP TAKING IT TO GET SERVICE AND THE DEALER COULDN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE IN 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. ENDED UP TRADING THE ODESSEY ON THURSDAY FOR A NEW ONE. HOWEVER THE THE NEW 2021 HONDA ODESSEY THAT I BOUGHT THURSDAY 4/8/21 LOST POWER ON ME TODAY AS I WAS DRIVING.

While driving the car suddenly lost power and display warning indicated that you should steer to a safe location and turn off the vehicle. Turned the vehicle on to put it into neutral (would not go into neutral unless the engine was running) to get it on the wrecker. Smoke started coming from the engine compartment. Called Honda dealership to ask how to put the vehicle in neutral without turning on the engine and was told there was no bypass. Vehicle was taken into dealership for repairs and was told the air conditioning compressor and compress…

After having the Honda Dealership perform an oil change and software update 23-008 (updating the Auto Idle Stop Software) last week, my engine stalled while at a busy intersection (PA turnpike/70 junction) during a road trip. At the long stop light the auto idle function engaged and the engine turned off. When the stop light turned green and I lifted my foot off the brake and pressed the gas the engine shut down and automatically went into Park. I had to press the start/stop button to fully turn off then turn back on the car to get the engine t…

On 1/31/25 our rear tailgate automatically opened upon parking the car in our garage. Later that day, the tailgate would no operate properly and had to be manually opened. The key fob was functional and could operate all other doors in the car, except the tail gate. Later that day, while the car was parked in our garage, the tailgate started operating by itself, without pressing any buttons on the remote control key fob. It would open and close by itself and repeat the entire sequence over and over again. Upon turning on the car, the display…

The power trunk stopped working. The car starts warning me about a power tailgate problem. I have seen this issue reported by others as well. The warning light comes and goes randomly. The power trunk does not work at all anymore I have to open and close the trunk manually. I am concerned about the trunk malfunctioning further.

Upon going to start my vehicle it would not start. I ended up jump starting the car and going to buy a new battery. I replaced the battery even though repair facility stated battery was at 78% and in good state. Two days later I went to start the van again and the battery was again dead. I jumped the car to get it started and have had to continually jump start the car due to no start issue. The alternator is showing a constant 14.3 volt charge when running but the battery continues to die. Has left my family stranded multiple times in the past …

Stopped at a stoplight, the engine will just die. It won't start again by pressing the gas peddle. It will require a few moments to try to restart it. It is very stressful and dangerous when people are waiting behind you. This is not safe. It won't happen every time but the few and far between are not good. We have replaced the battery and it sounds like other people have had this problem but no recall has been made to fix it.

ON REACHING THE EXIT OF A TUNNEL CAR WASH, THE VAN WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAYED A MESSAGE THAT, IN ORDER TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE, I HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, AND THAT'S CLEARLY A DANGEROUS THING TO DO IN A TUNNEL CAR WASH. I CAN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE IF I PUT THE VAN INTO NEUTRAL AND COAST DOWN OUR STREET (ABOUT 1200 FEET).

2021 Odyssey EXL shuts off completely in traffic stop and go conditions. Happened three times in a 2 week period. Twice in city roads at traffic stop light and once in highway when the cars are in stop / go mode due to heavy traffic. Engine switches off completely and puts itself in "P" mode, all light comes on as if in accessory mode, radio switches off, all doors unlocked. To get going, the driver had to press brake pedal and start the car again (via Engine Start /Stop button). This issue started in the car at 43K miles. Never had any issue …

I have a 2021 modely Honda Odyssey Elite (purchased in November 2020). This car has 14,000 miles on it as of July 29, 2022. When accelerating from a complete stop or accelerating after slowing down, upon depressing the accelerator pedal the car simply refuses to accelerate for a second or two and simply coasts due to momentum and then after a while accelerates hard causing a sudden jerky take off. This might not seem like a big issue on its face, but that delay has almost caused me to get hit by the oncoming traffic especially when making a rig…
