Owner report 11461859 · 2022-04-23 (April 23, 2022)

I leased a brand new 2022 Honda Pilot and after two weeks of leasing it developed a severe leaking problem with the transmission. The pilot was taken to a local dealer, the local dealer refused service. It was then taken to the original dealer, and the original dealer replaced the transmission. There was some sort of metallurgical fault or defect with the transmission casing, necessitating replacement of the entire transmission. The vehicle had less than 500 miles when this happened.

Our familly was driving down the highway on vacation when there was a very loud noise. I was in the passenger seat and looked back to see large pieces flying off of the car. When we got to a safe place to pull over, we noted that the trim at the bottom of the door, both front and rear had come off of the car. Had we been on the very busy freeway, which we had been a few minutes earlier, these large pieces flying into the air could have hit another vehicle or frightened a driver causing them to cross lanes trying to miss these pieces. Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

23V431000 · Back Over Prevention:Display Function

Reported: 2023-06-15 (June 15, 2023)

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connector, the rearview camera image may not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Consequence: A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the MOST cable harness and install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are EEL, ZEM, and SFC.

23V458000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Master Cylinder

Reported: 2023-06-29 (June 29, 2023)

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. The tie rod fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly.

Consequence: Brake master cylinder separation can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and repair the brake booster assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 7, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are VEU, AEV, and ZET.

The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, failing to suppress the air bag as intended.

Consequence: An air bag that deploys unintentionally during a crash can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 28, 2024. This is a phased recall. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for these recalls are XHP and VHQ.

Reported: 2026-06-04 (June 4, 2026)

American Honda Motor Company (Honda) is recalling certain 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX vehicles that were sold in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. The rear subframe may corrode at the suspension mounting points, which can result in rear suspension component failure.

Consequence: Failure of rear suspension components, such as the rear control arm, can cause a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rear subframe and install a rear subframe reinforcement kit and, as necessary, repair or replace the rear subframe components, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed July 27, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in the fall of 2026. The occupant detection system for all five rear seats is erratic, frequently reporting seats as occupied and unbuckled when they are empty or folded flat. Once the vehicle reaches 10 mph, audible alerts trigger and recur up to three times for 30 to 60 seconds each, even if no passengers are present. Because these sensors are integral to the restraint system, there is a critical concern that the airbags may not deploy correctly based on this inaccurate occupancy data. Extremely distracting. No warning lights or error codes were displayed on the dashboard during or leading up to or after these failures. One of these auto-restart failures occurred in active traffic and nearly…

The auto idle engine system was on. I came to complete stop at a stoplight, the engine turned off. Then when I released my foot off the break, the car shut down and flashed a bunch of lights. The engine then shifts itself to neutral and then park. I have to press the start button several times to get the engine to turn on again. This has happened numerous times to myself and family members driving the car. The car just stops and shuts off. Very dangerous when other cars are behind you.

The foreward collision warning is too sensitive and the alert message and steering wheel shaking are distracting. Especially driving on a two lane road, the forward collision messages occurs under normal driving situations. Simply a vehicle approaching in their lane in the opposite direction triggers the warning. The vehicle mistakingly thinks it recognizes an obstacle, and wrongly activates the brakes and forward collision warning. This recently occurred during highway driving with no apparent obstacles multiple times. Also (maybe related) when using adaptive cruise control, rather than adapt to a slower vehicle’s speed in-front of it, the Honda Pilot applies strong pressure on the brakes to adjust its pace. In other cars I’ve driven (Tesla, Subaru, Volvo, Chrysler, Kia) the response is a much more delicate “throttle release”. However, the Pilot m…

Vehicle repeatedly has applied emergency braking in situations where it should not have been applied. Generally, the problem is most likely to occur on two-lane roads with oncoming traffic and a bend to the right as viewed as I am driving. This has also occurred, to a lesser extent, on the highway when a car immediately in front slows and changes lanes to the right (as would be done to exit the highway). In this case, it seems like the system is too slow to recognize that the vehicle has changed lanes.

The foreward collision warning is too sensitive and the alert message and steering wheel shaking are distracting. Especially driving on a two lane road, the forward collision messages occurs under normal driving situations. Simply a vehicle approaching in their lane in the opposite direction triggers the warning. You get a large orange box popping up on the dash screen which diverts your attention from the road to the screen. It's an obnoxious panic message. Also, the steering wheel shakes to alert you, which startles you. I fear the mech…

At that point the West bound traffic is some 100 feet away from the eastbound. We were in the left line with a speed of 70 mph with ACC activated.
