THIS UNIT IS EQUIPPED WITH DEXTER AXLES AND IS A NEW UNIT. IT WAS DETERMINED THIS WEEK AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS OF REPORTING INCIDENTS TO LOCAL RV DEALERSHIP THAT ALL FOUR GREASE SEALS FAILED CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES. FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON NYS THRUWAY TRAVELING @ 60 MPH DURING SUMMER OF 2011. A SUDDEN STOP WAS NEEDED AND THERE WAS NO BRAKING FROM THE TRAILER. TOW VEHICLE IS A 08 CHEVY 2500HD. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID COLLISION WITH NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES STOPPED ON THRUWAY DUE TO SHOULDER LANE AVAILABLE. OTHERWISE, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A COLLISIO…

Recall history

3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

10V500000 · Equipment

Reported: 2010-10-21 (October 21, 2010)

JAYCO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 TRAVEL TRAILERS AND FIFTH WHEELS MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 16, 2010, THROUGH OCTOBER 1, 2010, EQUIPPED WITH ATWOOD 35 SERIES RANGE OVENS. A POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR A SMALL FRACTURE WITHIN THE LINE DELIVERING GAS TO THE OVEN CAVITY BURNER. SUCH A FRACTURE MAY CAUSE PROPANE GAS TO LEAK FROM THE LINE.

Consequence: A PROPANE LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION CAUSING PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY.

Remedy: JAYCO IS WORKING WITH ATWOOD AND WILL REPLACE OR REPAIR THE STOVES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 8, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ATWOOD AT 1-574-266-4749 OR JAYCO AT 1-574-825-0608.

Reported: 2011-02-24 (February 24, 2011)

JAYCO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 EAGLE SUPERLITE FIFTH-WHEELS MANUFACTURED FROM NOVEMBER 15, 2010, THROUGH FEBRUARY 9, 2011. DUE TO A TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR, THE SIZE OF THE TIRE AS INDICATED ON THE FEDERAL ID LABEL IS INCORRECTLY IDENTIFIED. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS."

Consequence: A MISPRINTED LABEL COULD LEAD TO SELECTION OF AN IMPROPERLY SIZED REPLACEMENT TIRE.

Remedy: OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH CORRECTED LABELS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-574-825-0608.

Reported: 2011-04-21 (April 21, 2011)

JAYCO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 EAGLE, SUPER LITE AND JAY FLIGHT G2 TRAVEL TRAILERS MANUFACTURED FROM DECEMBER 9, 2010, THROUGH FEBRUARY 11, 2011. THESE TRAILERS MAY HAVE CRACKED BOLTS ATTACHING THE LEVELING JACKS TO THE TRAILER FRAME. IF ALL OF THE BOLTS BREAK, IT COULD RESULT IN THE JACK COMING LOOSE FROM THE FRAME.

Consequence: IF THE JACK COMES LOOSE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION A CRASH, INJURY OR DEATH MAY RESULT.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FASTENERS ATTACHING THE LEVELING JACKS TO THE FRAME WITH MORE ROBUST FASTENERS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-800-283-8267.

I AM WRITING TO YOU TODAY BECAUSE MY JAYCO CAMPER WAS MANUFACTURED WITH NO ACCESS TO THE FURNACE. NO ACCESS TO THE PROPANE LINES, NO ACCESS TO THE BURNER; IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE WAY THIS CAMPER WAS CONSTRUCTED IS NOT INLINE WITH THE PROPANE REGULATIONS.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
