Recall history

4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

07V005000 · Trailer Hitches

Reported: 2007-01-04 (January 4, 2007)

ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES, THE DISTANCE FROM THE REAR CAP TO THE HITCH RECEIVER ENCOURAGES THE USE OF LONGER BALL MOUNTS AND/OR EXTENSIONS. THE LONGER THE BALL MOUNT AND/OR EXTENSIONS USED, THE GREATER THE FORCES THAT ARE APPLIED TO THE FASTENERS THAT ATTACH THE HITCH TO THE MAIN CHASSIS RAILS. THESE INCREASED FORCES EXCEED THE ALLOWABLE FORCES PERMITTED IN THE FASTENERS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE FASTENERS MAY STRETCH, LOOSEN, OR BREAK CAUSING AN UNSAFE TOWING CONDITION OR SEPARATION OF THE HITCH FROM THE MOTOR HOME.

Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE TOWED VEHICLE FROM THE MOTOR HOME WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH, INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE ALL MOUNTING HARDWARE WITH HARDWARE OF A HIGHER GRADE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 22, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-800-283-8267.

Reported: 2008-05-06 (May 6, 2008)

JAYCO IS RECALLING 1,265 MY 2005-2008 SENECA '35GS' AND MY 2007-2008 GREYHAWK '33DS' AND '32SS' MOTOR HOMES. THE CONDUIT CLAMP ON THE COPPER LIQUID PROPANE (LP) TUBE FEEDING THE SLIDE-0UT IS INCORRECTLY PLACED WHICH MAY ALLOW THE COPPER TUBE TO BEND AND POSSIBLY LEAK WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE SLIDE-OUT.

Consequence: IF THE COPPER TUBE CRACKED, PRESSURIZED LP GAS MAY ESCAPE INTO THE COMPARTMENT. THIS CONDITION, IF NOT ADDRESSED, MAY RESULT IN A FIRE, INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL RELOCATE THE CONDUIT CLAMP AND ADD A RUBBER GROMMET TO ALLOW ADHESION. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 26, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-574-825-5861.

Reported: 2008-05-07 (May 7, 2008)

JAYCO IS RECALLING 1,673 MY 2005-2008 SENECA MOTOR HOMES. AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CAN OCCUR IF THE BATTERY CABLES WERE NOT TUCKED INTO THE COMPARTMENT IN A MANNER THAT DOES NOT ALLOW THE CABLES TO BE PINCHED BETWEEN THE BATTERY SLIDE TRAY AND THE COMPARTMENT DOOR.

Consequence: IF THIS CONDITION IS NOT ADDRESSED, IT MAY RESULT IN A FIRE, INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL RELOCATE THE BATTERY CABLES TO THE REAR BATTERY AND REPOSITION A CLAMP TO PREVENT PINCHING. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 26, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAYCO AT 1-574-825-5861.

Reported: 2017-11-21 (November 21, 2017)

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling various 2002-2016 recreational vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V746-9524.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Jayco will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Improper mounting of the Dometic Water Heater by Jayco caused compartment failure. Jayco did not install supports under the 10-gallon water heater tank as required by Dometic (see installation instructions attached). Road bumps and vibrations caused the moment arm of the unsupported tank to tear the sheet metal water heater mounting frame fastened to the RV outer wall thereby causing a safety issue. The water heater compartment failed thereby tilting back behind the wall of the RV. When tilted back, the unit exhaust can enter the living quarte…

Issue 1. RV plumbing system poorly designed and installed allowing Grey-water tank damage and unsafe and unsanitary sewage leak. The Grey-water tank was not engineered with close enough tolerance in the mounting structure to prevent shifting during normal driving conditions allowing the tank to uncouple from the mounting rails, breaking the plumbing fixtures and allowing sewage to spill in the plumbing compartment. It appears that the propane furnace broke loose from the vehicle frame and fell into the frame area of the RV. This was used for less than an hour where the vented heat started to burn the RV. I noticed afterwards when I went to check on something else the damage. I feel pretty confident that had I not turned it off, it would have resulted in possible fatalities, since the furnace was just underneath the bed slide. As you can see from the pictures the furnace broke loose from the frame and was no longer attached directly on either the sides or …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
