Recall history
5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
85V051000 · Structure:Body:Bumpers
Reported: 1985-05-01 (May 1, 1985)
THE FLIP OUT STEP CLEVIS ON THE BUMPER MAY FAIL AND BREAK UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE PERSON STANDING ON THE STEP TO SERVICE THE FRONT AREA OF THE VEHICLE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THIS SUDDEN BREAK WILL CAUSE THE PERSON STANDING ON THE STEP TO FALL, WITHOUT WARNING, AND COULD RESULT IN INJURIES.
Remedy: REMOVE THE STEP CLEVIS AND REPLACE WITH A NEW IMPROVED CLEVIS.
NHTSA campaign record ↗85V057000 · Steering:Linkages:Drag:Link:Connection
Reported: 1985-05-03 (May 3, 1985)
THE DRAG LINKS MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED INCORRECTLY ALLOWING DRAG LINK CLAMP BOLT TO AXLE BEAM INTERFERENCE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: DURING A TURNING MANEUVER, INCREASED STEERING EFFORT OR COMPLETE LOCKUP OF STEERING COULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF TRUCK CONTROL AND A CRASH.
Remedy: ASSURE THAT DRAG LINKS ARE INSTALLED TO CORRECT INTERFERENCE CONDITION.
NHTSA campaign record ↗85V113000 · Service Brakes, Air
Reported: 1985-09-17 (September 17, 1985)
THE DUAL DOUBLE CHECK VALVE MAY NOT RELEASE THE PROPER AIR VOLUME TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM, CAUSING A SLIGHT TIMING DELAY BETWEEN THE TRACTOR AND THE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM. CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IF THE BRAKES ARE SUDDENLY APPLIED, THE TRAILER COULD JACKKNIFE WITHOUT WARNING TO THE OPERATOR, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: INSTALL TWO NEW SLEEVES IN THE DUAL DOUBLE CHECK VALVE WHICH WILL INCREASE AIR FLOW.
NHTSA campaign record ↗86V008000 · Structure
Reported: 1986-01-17 (January 17, 1986)
LEFT OR RIGHT CAB STEP MAY CRACK IN ITS WELDED AREA DUE TO FLEXING OF THE STEP DURING ENTERING AND EXITING. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: AS THE CRACKS EXTEND, THE TUBULAR STEP COULD PARTIALLY COLLAPSE AND BREAK WITHOUT WARNING TO THE USER, AND COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURIES.
Remedy: INSTALL A REINFORCEMENT BRACE IF NO CRACKS ARE FOUND. IN ADDITION, REPLACE STEP IF CRACKS ARE PRESENT.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1992: 0 complaints · 1993: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1992 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1993 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1992 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1993 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
Components reported together
