Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

17V082000 · Seats

Reported: 2017-02-09 (February 9, 2017)

Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2011 Mazda2 and 2010-2011 Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3 vehicles equipped with a manual seat lifter. In the affected vehicles, the seat height adjustment lifter links may break or detach from the seat frame and the seat angle may incline causing the driver to not be able to maintain an appropriate driving position.

Consequence: If the driver cannot maintain an appropriate driving position, there is an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat lifter links and install a reinforcement bracket to the lifter links, or replace the entire seat adjuster unit, free of charge. The recall began April 7, 2017. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 0917B.

The steering was making loud knocking noises at low-speed turns. When looked up Mazda2 issues, found that there was a recall for Steering, Recall no. 16V203000, dated 2016-04-10, states: If the steering knuckle separates from the strut assembly, it can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash. When the dealership looked up my VIN, it was not a serial number listed under the recall list. However, it had the same issues as the recall. These issues were listed as "requires immediate attention." The Steering rack and pinion…

My wife and daughter and I were driving out of the driveway. The driver's seat came completely detached from the frame and I ended up rotated and laying backwards in the driver seat. This is extremely dangerous and could cause serious injury or death. This was a recall for 2010 and 2011 models but this was manufactured in 12/11 so it didn't fall into the recall. This is exactly the issue that was described in the recall.

I have taken my car to two separate Mazda dealerships in 2019 and two separate non-dealership mechanics to address the same issue with a vibrating coming from the front driver when driving at lower speeds. It was not a constant noise until recently and saw there was a recall for my vehicle in May 2016. Mazda however says that my VIN does not qualify even though the build date range does show its covered. The 2011 Mazda2 has an active recall (recall campaign 0917B) which does not include my vin number. However, the lifter link push nuts on my vehicle failed, resulting in the entire left side of the driver seat becoming detached. Mazda Dealership 51743 (Lucki Mazda in Woodbridge, VA) inspected and diagnosed as the same issue in the 0917B recall campaign. Severity of the breakage is such that the recommendation is to replace the entire seat bracket.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

AT LOW SPEED DRIVING A CLUNKING NOISE COULD BE FELT IN THE STEERING. ON 11-20-2015 THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER DIAGNOSIS SHOWED A FAILURE IN THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING UNIT AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT CONSIDERABLE EXPENSE. DEALER ADVISED THAT NO TSB WAS ISSUED AND SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT A FAILURE IN THE ELECTRICAL POWER ASSIST UNIT IS A SERIOUS, IF NOT DANGEROUS ,CONDITION THAT SHOULD CAUSE THE NHTSA TO ORDER A RECALL OF THE 2011 MAZDA 2 TO MAKE SURE THE VEHICLES ARE R…
