1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

15V546000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly | Parking Brake

Reported: 2015-08-31 (August 31, 2015)

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (Mitsubishi) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Lancer Evolution vehicles manufactured January 31, 2014, to September 5, 2014, and 2014-2015 Lancer Ralliart vehicles manufactured February 3, 2014, to September 5, 2014. The affected turbocharged vehicles have a right parking brake cable that may contact the fuel tank, wearing away the tank's protective coating.

Consequence: Without the protective coating, the fuel tank may rust and leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will replace the right parking brake cable, and inspect the fuel tank, free of charge. If the fuel tank's exterior coating shows signs of damage from abrasive contact with the right parking brake cable, the fuel tank will also be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2015. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820. Mitsubishi's number for this recall is SR-15-009.

I'LL TURN THE CAR ON AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE BUT THE GEAR DOES NOT ENGAGE. THE REVERSE LIGHT ON THE DISPLAY PANEL JUST CONTINUES TO BLINK. ANOTHER ISSUE INVOLVING THE TRANSMISSION OCCURS WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL, THE CLUTCH FAILS TO ENGAGE CAUSING IT TO SLIP WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. ALSO WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE, THE RPMS JUST SHOOT THROUGH THE ROOF FURTHER PROVING OF CLUTCH SLIPPAGE. AT THIS POINT, THE CAR WILL LOSE THE ABILITY TO SHIFT TO 2, 4, OR …

HAD AN AWD SERVICE WARNING LIGHT COME ON IN THE CAR WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN TRAFFIC. THE CAR CODED A C161E CODE FOR ACTIVE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL. IT SEEMS TO COME ON WHEN IT IS WARM OUT ABOVE 60 DEGREES. THE CODE IS FOR THE ACTIVE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL PUMP WHICH IS PART OF THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM AND BASICALLY CONTROLS HOW THE CAR SPLITS THE POWER FROM THE FRONT AND REAR WHEELS THROUGH THE TRANSFER CASE. FOUND OUT WHEN I WENT TO THE MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS ONLY COVERED UNDER THE BASIC 36000 MILE WARRANTY AND IS NOT CONSID…

THE 2012 LANCER RALLIART WAS PURCHASED NEW. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH A TC-SST(TWIN CLUTCH- SPORTRONIC SHIFT TRANSMISSION). AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER OWNING THE VEHICLE, IT CONSTANTLY "SLIPS" INTO GEAR. WHETHER THE CAR IS IN AUTOMATIC MODE, OR IN MANUAL MODE. THE SOUNDS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD CONSTANTLY MAKE ME CRINGE. AT TIME OF FAILURE, I WAS DRIVING 55-60 MPH. AT A STEADY CRUISE IN 6TH GEAR (AUTOMATIC MODE) THE CLUTCH RANDOMLY ENGAGED, DISENGAGED. IT THEN SLIPPED IN AND OUT OF GEAR LIKE A COMPUTER WITH A VIRUS WAS OPERATING THE CAR. I THEN C…

2009 MITSUBSHI LANCER RALLIART PULLS HARD TO RIGHT AT ALL TIMES. TOOK TO DEALER THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. TOOK TO A SUSPENSION SHOP SAID MANUFACTURE SET CAMBER IS OFF. I HAVE WENT THRU MY THIRD SET OF FRONT TIRES IN ONLY 45,000 MILES. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR SAFETY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY IN THE CENTER LANE SWITCHED TO LEFT LANE AND CAR IMMEDIATELY AND VIOLENTLY JERKED LEFT AND I HAD TO USE STRUGGLE TO KEEP THE CAR FROM VEERING OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE GONE THROUGH 4 SETS OF TIRES CAR HAS BEEN ALIGNED 5 TIMES AND IT WILL NOT STEER STRAIGHT AND REQUIRES IMMENSE EFFORT JUST TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD WHENEVER THE CROWN OF THE ROAD IS ON THE LEFT. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL DATING BACK TO 2008 AND IT A SAFETY AND DEFECT HAZARD. UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR MAIMED THE MANUFACTURER WITH JUST DENY ANYTHING …

I STOPPED AT A LIGHT, THE WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN MY DASH BEGAN TO FLASH A "SERVICE REQUIRED" LIGHT AT ME. AFTER DOING SOME INVESTIGATION, IT TURNS OUT THAT IT IS AN EXTREMELY WELL KNOWN AND UNADDRESSED ISSUE WITH THE CAR'S ACD PUMP FAILING. IT'S A DESIGN FLAW THAT COSTS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX, BUT FAILURE OF THE PART IS PRACTICALLY GUARANTEED. WHY THERE'S NO RECALL YET IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. *TR

"ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" MESSAGE CAM ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CORTESE MITSUBISHI IN ROCHESTER NY WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS NEEDED WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANT. UPGRADE WAS PERFORMED AND I WAS INFORMED TO RETURN IF OTHER MESSAGES WERE DISPLAYED AS THE AWC PUMP MIGHT BE FAULTY WHICH WOULD BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. AT 40300M THE TARMAC DISPLAY STARTED FLASHING AND TRACTION CONTROL SETTING COULD NOT BE CHANGED FROM THE AWC SWITCH. RETURNED THE CAR TO CORTESE MITSUBISHI WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE AWC PUM…

I WAS DRIVING FROM DALLAS, TX, TO EL PASO, TX IN MY 2009 MITSUBISHI RALLIART. AROUND 3PM AND WITH AN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE OF APPROX 99 DEGREES FARENHEIT (BASED ON THE DISPLAY READOUT ON THE CAR). THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON, SO I TURNED IT TO RECIRCULATING AIR, IT PERSISTED, SO I TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF, BUT THE VERY STRONG GASOLINE SMELL, TO MY AMAZEMENT, PERSISTED. 2 PASSENGERS (MY ELDERLY DAD 76, AND MY LITTLE SISTER, 18) ALSO NOTICED THE SMELL. AWC PUMP FAILED AFTER ABOUT 20,000 MILES IN THE CAR. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON FOR THE EVO X AND REALLIART MODELS 2008 AND AFTER. CAR DOES NOT HANDLE WELL WITH THIS SETTING AND IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN THE WINTER BECAUSE CAN'T SET TO SNOW MODE. COST TO REPLACE IS AROUND $2K AND MITSU KEEPS STATING THIS IS NOT COVERED BY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND IS A MAINTENANCE ITEM. NEVER HEARD OF A $2K MAINTENANCE ITEMS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS THAT STATE THE CAUSE OF THIS IS THE WRONG TYPE OF OIL USED AND THE FACT THAT THE PART IS NOT MADE OF DUR…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
