ALL 8V ENGINES MADE BY MOTO GUZZI FROM 2009 TO 2012 HAD FLAT LIFTERS THAT ARE PRONE TO FAILING. THE ONLY WAY THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN ACCIDENT IS THEY WARN BY BEING VERY NOISY AND OWNERS REPAIR THEM. PIAGGIO, WHO OWNS MOTO GUZZI, TAKES EACH CASE SEPARATELY AND MY OR MAY NOT WARRANTY THEM PLUS TAKES MONTHS AT TIMES TO DECIDE MANY TIMES LEAVING THE OWNER WITH A $2,000 REPAIR. PARTICLES FROM THE FAILING LIFTERS AND CAMS CAN DESTROY THE BEARINGS AND CAUSE A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER AND DESTROY THE ENGINE. THEY HAVE KITS TO FIX IT BUT WILL NOT RECALL …

Reported: 2013-07-24 (July 24, 2013)
Piaggio Group Americas (Piaggio) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX 1200 motorcycles manufactured February 6, 2012, through April 10, 2013; and model year 2012-2013 Moto Guzzi Norge 1200 motorcycles manufactured January 25, 2012, through March 21, 2013; and model year 2012-2013 Moto Guzzi Griso 1200 motorcycles manufactured January 26, 2012, through April 29, 2013. Due to a manufacturing fault, the rear suspension connecting links could fracture.
Consequence: If the rear suspension links fail while riding, the rear suspension would suddenly collapse, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Piaggio will notify owners, and Moto Guzzi dealers will replace the rear suspension connecting links on the affected vehicles, free of charge. The recall began on August 12, 2013. Owners may contact Piaggio at 1-877-696-6864.

THE OIL PUMPS OF SOME OF THE 2007 MOTO GUZZI NORGES (AND, POSSIBLY, OTHER SIMILAR MODELS) HAVE FAILED IN THIS COUNTRY AND OVERSEAS. THESE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED IN MANY NORGES KNOWN TO THE COMPLAINANT, AND MORE INFORMATION IS READILY AVAILABLE VIA UNOFFICIAL MOTO GUZZI INTERNET SITES, E.G., THE DISCUSSION FORUMS AT WWW.GUZZITECH.COM & WWW.WILDGUZZI.COM. THE PUMPS HAVE FAILED AS THE RESULT OF NO MISCONDUCT OR ABUSE KNOWN TO THE COMPLAINANT, BUT ALL HAVE OCCURRED IN THE COURSE OF ORDINARY SPORT-TOURING RIDING, FOR WHICH THE NORGE WAS OSTENSIBLY…

THERE IS A GROANING NOISE COMING FROM THE CLUTCH AREA OF THE MOTORCYCLE THE CLUTCH LEVER IS ALSO HARDER TO PULL THAN USUAL AND WILL SOMETIMES NOT FULLY ENGAGE CAUSING DIFFICULTY DOWNSHIFTING AND UP-SHIFTING. THE NOISE IS MORE OF A SQUEAL AND IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT ALSO THE CLUTCH IS NOT MORE JERKY AS OPPOSED TO BEING SMOOTH. *TR
I UNDERSTAND THAT PIAGGIO GROUP, THE PARENT COMPANY OF MOTORCYCLE IMPORTER MOTO GUZZI USA, HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN TO ITS DEALERS WITH REGARDS TO A DEFECTIVE MOUNTING SYSTEM AND IMMINENT SAFETY CONCERN FOR AN ACCESSORY TOP BOX (TRUNK) THAT THEY SELL FOR THE 2007-2008 NORGE 1200 MODEL. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY PASSENGER COULD POSSIBLY FALL OFF THE BIKE AND BE INJURED OR KILLED, WHEN USING THE TOP BOX. THE MOTO GUZZI NORGE IS MANUFACTURED WITH A PLASTIC FUEL TANK. THE FUEL TANK HAS DEFORMED TO THE POINT THAT IT NO LONGER FITS PROPERLY ONTO THE MOTORCYCLE. THE DEFORMATION HAS RESULTING IN THE BODY PANELS, FAIRING PANELS AND ELECTRICAL WIRING COVER PANELS BEING PUSHED PUSHED OUT OF POSITION AND MUST NOW BE HELD IN PLACE USING ZIP TIES INSTEAD OF THE BOLTS DESIGNED TO HOLD THEM IN PLACE. THE TANK HAS SWELLED IN ALL DIRECTIONS AND ALSO GREATER IN CERTAIN AREAS SO THAT LARGE BUMPS ARE VISIBLE AND CAN ALSO BE FELT BY TOUCH. THE DEFORMATION UNDER…
ON 8-26-2008 I WAS RIDING MY 2007 MOTO GUZZI NORGE WHICH HAS THE MOTO GUZZI ACCESSORY TOP CASE ON THE MOTORCYCLE. AFTER RIDING MORE THAN 350 MILES THAT DAY I PULL OFF THE ROAD TO TAKE A PICTURE. AS I LEFT THE PAVEMENT AND BEGAN DRIVING ON THE DIRT NEXT TO THE ROAD I HIT A COUPLE OF RUTS AT APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH. AT WHICH POINT THE TOP CASE, WHICH ATTACHES TO THE BACK OF THE BIKE, EJECTED ITSELF FROM ITS MOUNT, STRUCK ME IN THE LOWER BACK AND THEN FELL TO THE GROUND. THE MOUNT WHICH THE TOP CASE ATTACHES TO IS THE NEW STYLE MOUNT WITH THE ALUMINUM…

THE COMPLAINT IS FOR A 2007 MOTO GUZZI NORGE MOTORCYCLE WITH ~17,000 MILES. DURING THE COURSE OF ROUTINE RIDING/OPERATION IN APRIL 2011, THE RING NUT MAINTAINING TENSION ON THE PINION GEARS INTERNAL TO THE FINAL DRIVE UNIT CAME LOOSE AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY STRIPPED OF ITS THREADS. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD, DURING DECELERATION, SEVERE GEAR CLASH AND A HIGH-PITCHED SCREECH WAS AUDIBLE FROM THE FINAL DRIVE UNIT. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE DEALER (IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE) FOR EVALUATION, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A "STAR-WASHER", OR LOCKING W…

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
