7 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

00V227000 · Equipment:Other:Labels

Reported: 2000-08-16 (August 16, 2000)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTOR HOMES. INCORRECT INFORMATION HAS BEEN USED ON THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) TAG. THE TAG SHOWS TIRES INFORMATION LOCATED UNDER COLD INFLATION PRESSURE AS 131 PSI FOR THE FRONT AND 123 PSI FOR THE REAR. THE MAXIMUM TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE FOR THE RIM IS 120 PSI. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 120, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS."

Consequence: THE RIM COULD POSSIBLY FAIL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: NEW TAGS WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS.

Reported: 2017-12-15 (December 15, 2017)

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling various 1995-2018 motorhomes. A list of the affected vehicles available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V809-2309.pdf. These motorhomes are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Newmar will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on February 7, 2018. Owners may contact Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information or owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-574-773-7791. These vehicles, built on a Spartan K3 chassis and powered by a Cummins ISX-12 engine are experiencing very high failure rates in the DEF system control head. When the control head fails, it sends error codes that result in derating engine power dramatically and/or immediate engine shut-down. This creates a very dangerous situation for anyone driving a motorhome that experiences this problem. In extreme cases, it may stop the vehicle in traffic lanes. Spartan Chassis says replacement DEF control heads are in extremely short supply and they wi…

My motorhome is currently in a Freighliner shop to replace the 2nd defective DEF head in less than 19,000 miles since New. The defective DEF head causes a derate of power and total shut down and can leave you stranded on the highway or coming down a mountain pass with no power defeating the air compressor therefore no air brakes with a 45 foot, 58,000 GVW vehicle. In my case I was able to get off the highway before total shutdown only because I was aware of the built in shutdown design of the emissions system.
