11V509000 · Power Train:Axle Assembly

Reported: 2011-10-20 (October 20, 2011)

PJ TRAILERS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 FLATBED TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH A 15 3/4" OR A 21 3/4" EQUALIZER FOR 10K/12K SPRING AXLES. THE WELDS ON THE TOP OF THE EQUALIZER THAT HOLD THE BUSHING THROUGH WHICH THE EQUALIZER BOLTS TO THE TRAILER WERE NOT PROPERLY WELDED AND CAN FAIL CAUSING THE AXLE TO DETACH FROM THE TRAILER.

Consequence: AXLE DETACHMENT COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: PJ TRAILERS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPAIR THE TRAILERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 7, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PJ TRAILERS AT 1-903-669-0213.

The contact owns a 2023 PJ Trailer LD. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V319000 (Trailer Hitches) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer and several other unknown dealers were contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue via email. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
