While driving 40 miles per hour a sudden explosion happened with no warning. Thought it was the engine due to the smoke coming out of rear of the vehicle but realized that engine was still on and steam was coming out. All coolant drained out of vehicle and on road. Heard a ticking noise while driving. Pulled over, on freeway. It was not a safe situation parked on side of a major freeway. Turned off car to look around the engine and found nothing. Started the car again and it died within 5 seconds. The electric system completely died after and would not crank. Got it towed to dealer after waiting for tow truck 3 hours. I was really scared sitting in my that someone would crash into me. Dealer has now the engine apart diagnosing it. It is a failed engine and will need a brand new motor.

1. Door panel Issue. I have a 2012 911, and have noticed last year that the door panels have popped up on both sides, it looks like the glue has given way. It seems that this is a common issue for Porsche 911. 2. Keyless Entry Issue. I was not able to lock my car by pressing by the door handle's button. I was able to unlock the car. I then tried on the passenger's side and was able to lock it. It's been going on for months, and every time it occurs I will have to spend minutes to get into the car.

My air conditioner/heater fan does not come on after car has been sitting for a few days in a humid climate. There is no permanent fix. This is a safety issue because without the fan motor the defroster doesn't work and the windows can fog up creating a dangerous situation.

Woke up one morning and noticed a very strong gas smell coming from the car while driving with the windows down, even at low speed. This panel is designed to release in a side impact condition and any glue modifications to this panel would violate the designed operation. The manufacture is well aware of this issue and has replaced a number of them out of warranty for free, but you have to back them in a corner.

The center lock bolts to the wheels increase in tightness when driven even a short distance. All four of my bolts have consistently tightened to over 800 ft/lbs of torque after being installed at Porsche dealerships. The car was delivered new in Sept 2023. Tail light fall off the car while driving, catching it dangling from the car holding by only one wire. Upon inspection, they came off due to a broken plastic lug that was holding the taillights together. It appears that Porsche changed the taillight mounting design in the 991 after the 2013 model year, adding a metal piece to keep it together even after the plastic cracks, melts, or fails. Mine is 2012 so it will cost us a fortune for get it fixed, for something it was clearly a design failure from the beginning.

The tail light assembly mounting fastener failed and the tail light assembly fell out of the rear bumper assembly. There was no indication of a failure while driving. Apparently this is a known issue with the 991.1 version of the 911. I’ve owned the car since new (MY 2013), have it serviced at a Porsche dealership and have not been notified of the potential safety issue.

Both my rear break lights are showing stress cracks from movement of the frame of the body. There are other references to this happening online from other owners and it's a manufacturer defect. I brought to the dealer and was told that they should be replaced for $3000 each as they are allowing water to intrude and will cause a shorting out of the brake lights. No brake lights would be a major hazard. The cracks in both lights were not due to impacts. It is a design issue.
