Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

92V014000 · Steering:Rack And Pinion:Rack

Reported: 1992-02-07 (February 7, 1992)

ONE OR MORE OF THE BOLTS MOUNTING THE STEERING RACK TO THE CHASSIS OF THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN STRETCHED, DUE TO OVER TORQUING IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, CAUSING SOME OF THE BOLTS TO LOOSEN.

Consequence: THE LOOSE MOUNTING BOLTS MAY ALLOW THE STEERING RACK TOSHIFT WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A NON-CENTERED STEERING WHEEL, LESS PRECISESTEERING CONTROL, AND DAMAGE TO THE STEERING RACK.

Remedy: REPLACE THE STEERING RACK BOLTS WITH BOLTS OF A HIGHER STRENGTH; REPLACE THE STEERING RACK IF IT IS DAMAGED.

92V061000 · Vehicle Speed Control

Reported: 1992-04-27 (April 27, 1992)

THE REAR ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER NEAR THE CRUISE CONTROL SERVO MOTOR SLIPS, CAUSING THE SAFETY CLIP IN THE SERVO MOTOR ARM TO BIND DUE TO INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE. IF THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE BINDS, THE ENGINE DOES NOT RETURN TO IDLE WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTION IS DISENGAGED, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE SPEED NOT BEING REDUCED AS EXPECTED.

Consequence: WHEN THE VEHICLE SPEED IS NOT REDUCED WHEN THE CRUISECONTROL IS DISENGAGED, STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASES WHICH CAN RESULT IN A VEHICLEACCIDENT.

Remedy: INSTALL A BOLT AND WASHER ON THE REAR ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER TO PREVENT SLIPPING AND TO INSURE THE NECESSARY CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE SAFETY CLIP AND THE COVER.

THERE EXISTS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE PINION BEARING IN THE TRANSAXLE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY DEALERS, CONSUMERS, AND THE MANUFACTURER. TO DATE, THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF KNOWN FAILURES - CONSIDERING THAT PORSCHE PRODUCED LESS THAN 12,780 OF THESE VEHICLES WORLDWIDE OVER FOUR YEARS, THE RATIO OF FAILURES IS ALARMINGLY HIGH. TO DATE, PORSCHE HAS REJECTED CLAIMS FROM CONSUMERS FOR THE REPAIR OF FAILED UNITS AND CONTINUES TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM WHICH UNADDRESSED CAN RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND "COULD" RESULT IN DEATH OR SERIOUS…

ALL ELECTRICAL POWER STOPS ABRUPTLY IMMEDIATELY KILLING THE ENGINE AND ALL POWER TO LIGHTS. YOU CAN'T EVEN PUT ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS SINCE THERE IS NO ELECTRICAL POWER. APPEARS TO HAPPEN WHEN A HIGHER ELECTRICAL LOAD IS INTRODUCED SUCH AS A/C OR HIGH BEAMS ARE USED. MOST RECENTLY, THIS HAPPENED ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY WHERE THE ONLY LIGHTS AVAILABLE WERE THE VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS. WHEN ALL POWER STOPPED AT CLOSE TO 60MPH IT WAS PITCH BLACK. WITHOUT KNOWING THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PULL OVER MISSING A TELEPHONE POLE AT 50MPH…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
