00V389000 · Suspension

Reported: 2000-11-21 (November 21, 2000)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT COACHES. THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS WERE NOT WELDED ON THE TAG AXLE.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL WELD THE BRACKETS ON THE TAB AXLE.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
03V090000 · Steering:Column

Reported: 2003-03-07 (March 7, 2003)

ON CERTAIN MOTOR COACHES AND MOTOR HOMES, THE STEERING COLUMNS MAY BE MISSING THE LOWER BOLT AND NUT. A REPLACEMENT BOLT AND NUT WAS INSTALLED TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION ON THE PRODUCTION LINE. IF A REPLACEMENT BOLT HAS BEEN USED AND NOT TIGHTENED PROPERLY, THE COLUMN MAY COME OUT OF THE INPUT SHAFT WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM IS USED.

Consequence: IN SUCH A CASE, A LOSS OF STEERING WOULD OCCUR.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL VERIFY THE SIZE OF THE BOLT AND NUT AND REPLACE THEM IF NEEDED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 4, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT PREVOST AT 1-418-831-5432.

98V024000 · Suspension:Front

Reported: 1998-02-10 (February 10, 1998)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT BUSES WITH DRIVE AXLE EQUIPPED WITH DRUM BRAKES ONLY. THE DESIGN OF THE DIFFERENTIAL CROSS-MEMBER REINFORCEMENT CAN CRACK UNDER CERTAIN APPLICATIONS.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD REDUCE THE STEERING CAPABILITY MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THE DRIVER TO DO ACCURATE TURNS.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL TWO OTHER REINFORCEMENTS TO SOLIDIFY THE CROSS-MEMBER ASSEMBLY.

Reported: 1998-07-30 (July 30, 1998)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT COACHES. THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY CABLES WERE NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE NUTS TO LOOSEN OVER A PERIOD OF TIME CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT AND POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT, REMOVE AND RE-INSTALL THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY CABLES.

98V239000 · Suspension:Front

Reported: 1998-10-06 (October 6, 1998)

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: TRANSIT BUSES. THE BOLTS FIXING THE RADIUS ROD LOCKING TAB PLATES WERE NOT LUBRICATED BEFORE BEING TIGHTENED.

Consequence: IMPROPER TIGHTENING CAN CAUSE LOOSENING OF THE ATTACHMENT OVER A PERIOD OF TIME INCREASING THE RISK OF LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BOLTS, LUBRICATING THEM, INSTALLING A NEW LOCKING TAB PLATE, AND RETIGHTENING THE BOLTS.

99V284000 · Visibility:Glass, Side/Rear

Reported: 1999-10-15 (October 15, 1999)

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
