Recall history
3 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
96V014000 · Steering: Steering Wheel/Handle Bar
Reported: 1996-01-23 (January 23, 1996)
INTERMITTENT DISRUPTION OF THE FUNCTIONS CONTROLLED BY THE STEERING WHEEL CENTER TOUCH PAD CAN OCCUR CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THIS DOES NOT CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 104, "WINDHSIELD WIPING AND WASHING SYSTEMS;" AND NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT."
Consequence: CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE IMPROPER OPERATION OF THE FUNCTIONS CONTROLLED BY THE TOUCH PAD. THE FUNCTION (1) FAILS TO OPERATE; (2) OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY; OR (3) OPERATES UNEXPECTEDLY, I.E. A FUNCTION COMES ON WITHOUT BEING SWITCHED ON. ANY OF THESE COULD DISTRACT A DRIVER INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE STEERING WHEEL CENTER CONTROL ASSEMBLIES TO ELIMINATE THE ELECTRICAL SHORTING.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V081000 · Steering:Linkages:Drag:Link:Connection
Reported: 1996-05-17 (May 17, 1996)
THE DRAGLINKS HAVE BEEN EQUIPPED WITH AN ANTI-TILT SEAL ON THE PITMAN END THAT CAN AFFECT THE TAPER FIT OF THE BALL STUD TAPER INTO THE PITMAN ARM. THE RECOMMENDED TORQUE ON THE STUD NUT DOES NOT OVERCOME THE COMPRESSION OF THE ANTI-TILT SEAL.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE A LOOSENING OF THE JOINT AND ULTIMATE SEPARATION RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE WASHERS WITH 90 DEGREE FLANGES WITH WASHERS HAVING A 45 DEGREE FLANGE AND SANDWICH THE RUBBER BUSHING IN THE ANTI-TILT SEAL. THE FLANGES ALLOW THE BUSHING TO PROPERLY EXPAND. IF A BODY HAS BEEN COMPLETED ON THE CHASSIS, THE PITMAN ARM WILL ALSO BE REPLACED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V201000 · Vehicle Speed Control
Reported: 1996-11-25 (November 25, 1996)
THE ECO-CRUISE ACTUATOR CAN BIND THE THROTTLE.
Consequence: IF THE ACTUATOR BINDS, ENGINE SPEED MAY NOT DECREASE TO THE LEVEL ANTICIPATED BY THE OPERATOR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THESE ACTUATORS UNTIL NEW OR REMANUFACTURED UNITS CAN BE SUPPLIED.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2005: 1 complaints · 2006: 0 complaints

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2005 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| 2006 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
