Owner report 11456281 · 2022-03-11 (March 11, 2022)

While driving the electronic systems that monitor the brakes as well as traction control malfunction. It happened multiple times. At one point, the steering wheel was not operable. The brakes became inoperable. I had it towed to the Tesla service center where they said they corrected it. However, upon getting the car back it happened again. Car is very unsafe to drive when all systems shut down.

Owner report 11458566 · 2022-03-28 (March 28, 2022)

Vehicle repeatedly applied the brakes while on cruise control. This sometimes seemed to be a response to other vehicles approaching in the oncoming traffic lane, but sometimes seemed totally unexpected. Once, the vehicle even sounded the collision alarm when no collision danger was present. If someone had been following me closely, the inexplicable braking could have caused an accident. A search of Tesla forums shows this is a common problem with these vehicles.

Reported: 2026-05-04 (May 4, 2026)

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2017, 2021-2023 Model 3, 2020-2023 Model Y, 2021-2023 Model S, and Model X vehicles operating software version 2026.8.6. The rearview camera image may be delayed when the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Consequence: A delayed rearview image reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 3, 2026. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-26-00-001.

There is an issue with the GPS in that the location is not accurate, sometimes it is off by 10-20 feet, enough to put it on a different road, sometimes it's off by 100s of feet. This is very dangerous as when using Autopilot, it uses map data to set the cruising speed, and if the GPS is reporting the car is on a different road, the speed can change to being faster or slower than the actual road the car is on. This results in sudden braking. The car will be on the highway, traveling at 55MPH, and then all of a sudden the GPS thinks its on a side…

Tesla has replaced the stalk, normally used for turn signals, into touch screen buttons on the steering wheel. It is very difficult to use these buttons to switch on the turn signal, especially if the steering is not pointing absolutely straight. In other words, if the steering is turned at even a small angle, it becomes almost impossible to press the correct touch screen button without looking down and therefore compromising attention to the road. This can be dangerous, especially at higher speeds, when a fraction of a second delay in respo…

We received the Full Self-Driving Beta software from Tesla this week. How NHTSA has permitted Tesla to enable this software for use on public streets is mind-blowing. IT IS THAT DANGEROUS! Do the public a favor and go drive a Tesla with FSD enabled. You can read my full comments on our blog: https://nerdvittles.com/the-10000-hoax-meet-teslas-full-self-driving-vehicle/

Using Tesla Autopilot I was passing a semi truck on Ohio Turnpike and as I was right next to the semi truck my Tesla suddenly started to flash red warning light and make a loud squealing sound and began to rapidly decelerate. Luckily no one was right behind us or likely a rear collision would have occurred. The semi truck was a little closer than normal to me but was still within its lane. This happened twice that day so I stopped using Autopilot as it was dangerous and very frightening to me and my passenger.

Phantom Breaking and vehicle slow down events occur near daily when using the highway when adaptive cruise control is engaged. The vehicle will abruptly try to stop, or slow down aby 5-10 MPH. This has caused several close calls with other drivers on the highways. Date of the incident is the latest. In the last two weeks prior to the incident, it has occurred at least 6-10 times.

Tesla has auto-park in the supervised FSD. My wife was using it to park the car in a public garage and it hit a post. The car was damaged. It was too quick for my wife to intervene. I know it is supervised, but there is no time to intervene when it comes to parking where the spot to park is close to other cars or posts anyway.

The 2021-2022 model X “yoke” steering wheel is poorly conceived and a safety hazard. 1) horn location is tiny, and moves as wheel turns, impossible to quickly activate horn in emergency situations 2) high Beam lights are on a tiny button which also moves and cannot be activated when wheel turns or in an emergency situation, or even when choosing to cross an intersection during a yellow light because a car behind you is tailgating. 3) wheel shape: when used at lower speeds in autopilot Beta mode, the electronics literally rip the wheel out of yo…

The horn is a small button on the steering wheel instead of the larger pad in the center of the steering wheel. When making turns or complex maneuvers the horn is not easily found since the steering device is turning. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.
