Owner report 11459141 · 2022-03-31 (March 31, 2022)
The bolts used to mount the RV body to the frame are substandard and spaced too far apart. The RV body weight causes these bolts to begin shearing off. Once one shears off, the entire RV becomes unstable and causes more bolts to fail. On this RV, all of the bolts from the front of the coach to the second exterior storage bin back, on both sides failed. This is a distance of approximately 10 feet on each side. The RV body dropped from the frame 1.5" on the driver side and 2" on the passenger side. This caused safety issues in that the exit door …

Owner report 11613912 · 2024-09-11 (September 11, 2024)
The trailer hitch mounting brackets failed (metal sheered) where the hitch mounts to the frame. It attaches at 2 points, and both points malfunctioned. My trailer almost separated from the RV while I was driving. There was only about 5% of the metal remaining, even though I was only towing 1100 lbs of the 8000lb capacity. After posting in a Facebook chat (Thor Outlaw Owners and Wannabees) there were probably a dozen owners that posted pictures of the same exact incidents. Some of them were towing vehicles, and the vehicles either departed the…

Recall history
6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
18V120000 · Seat Belts: Rear/Other:Buckle Assembly
Reported: 2018-02-19 (February 19, 2018)
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Outlaw recreational vehicles, model 29J. The sofa seat belt bracket may not meet the strength requirements and may not adequately restrain an occupant in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Consequence: If the bracket does not meet the strength requirements, the anchorage may fail in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: TMC will notify owners, and dealers will install a new bracket, free of charge. The recall began on April 4, 2018. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000151.
NHTSA campaign record ↗18V385000 · Suspension:Rear:Springs:Leaf Spring Assembly:U-Bolt, Leaf Spring To Axle
Reported: 2018-06-08 (June 8, 2018)
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2019 Thor Four Winds, Chateau, Freedom Elite, Majestic, Outlaw, Quantum and Vegas motorhomes built on modified Ford E-450 chassis. The U-bolts on the rear axle that hold the leaf spring and rear axle together may have been insufficiently tightened.
Consequence: The loose U-bolts may further loosen or break allowing the axle to separate and cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: TMC has notified owners, and dealers will tighten U-bolts to the proper torque, free of charge. The recall began on June 22, 2018. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000156.
NHTSA campaign record ↗18V482000 · Visibility
Reported: 2018-07-19 (July 19, 2018)
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Thor Outlaw motorhomes, model 29J. These vehicles were manufactured without the rear reflex reflectors, which can make the vehicle less visible to other drivers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Consequence: Missing rear reflex reflectors can make the vehicle less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: TMC will notify owners, and dealers will install the missing reflectors, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2018. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC0000157.

Reported: 2018-08-29 (August 29, 2018)
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Outlaw motorhomes, model 29J. The 12V wiring for the coach may have been improperly wired to the battery instead of wired through a circuit breaker.
Consequence: In the event of an electrical short circuit, the unprotected circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Remedy: TMC will notify owners, and dealers will correct the circuit's wiring, free of charge. The recall began October 9, 2018. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000160.

Reported: 2018-11-16 (November 16, 2018)
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Thor Challenger, Miramar, and Outlaw motorhomes. The motorized windshield roller shade at the driver's seating position may unroll without warning while driving.
Consequence: If the windshield roller shade unrolls while driving, it could block the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: TMC will notify owners, and dealers will install a fastener to ensure the motor will not allow the shade to roll down during while driving. The recall began January 10, 2019. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000165.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
