WHEN DOING MAINTENANCE ON MY TRIUMPH, I TAKE OFF THE GAS TANK. SO AFTER DOING MY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS, THE BOLT UP FRONT AND THE TWO BOLTS IN BACK OF TANK DO NOT ALIGN UP WITH HOLES. IT SEEMS THE TANK HAS SWOLLEN OR HAS GOTTEN BIGGER. I MANAGE TO FASTEN TANK BACK TO FRAME BY STRIPING THREADS OR USING SPACERS AND LONGER BOLTS SO I CAN GET THAT LITTLE BIT OF LEVERAGE AND ANGLE TO REACH THE HOLES. I THINK IT IS DO TO THE ETHANOL ADDED TO OUR GASOLINE WHICH IS DEFORMING THE PLASTIC TANKS. THIS IS DISAPPOINTING TO SEE WHEN I SPENT THOUSANDS OF DO…

THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL ON THIS MODEL AND SEVERAL OTHERS FOR THE PLASTIC FUEL CONNECTORS, DEFECT INVESTIGATION PE03053 / NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V156000. MY 2004 SPRINT RS, WHICH HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE, WAS PARKED FOR EXTENSIVE, UNRELATED, WORK, WHEN A FRIEND WITH A TRIUMPH DAYTONA CAME OVER. HE HAD NOT HAD THE RECALL DONE ON HIS BIKE AND HIS FUEL CONNECTOR BROKE WHILE HE WAS HERE. I REMOVED THE CONNECTOR FROM MY 2004 SPRINT RS AND INSTALLED IT ON HIS DAYTONA AND GOT HIM BACK ON THE ROAD. HE ORDERED ME A REPLACEMENT CONNECTOR FROM…

THE FUEL TANK HAS EXPANDED AND DEFORMED SIGNIFICANTLY. WHEN REMOVED FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE TANK REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT PRESSURE TO GET IT REINSTALLED. ALSO, WHEN INSTALLED, THE TANK DOES NOT FIT INTO THE RECESS PROPERLY AND INTERFERES WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE HANDLEBARS IN SHARP RIGHT AND LEFT HAND TURNING.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
