Recall history
5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
15V247000 · Back Over Prevention: Camera System
Reported: 2015-04-27 (April 27, 2015)
Spartan Motors, Inc. (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Utilimaster Walk-in vans and truck body vehicles manufactured January 21, 2014, to March 12, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with a back up camera system which may display images from the camera in reverse.
Consequence: If an object or person are on the left side of the screen but are actually on the right side of the vehicle, or vice versa, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy: Spartan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace any camera that is not displaying the correct images. The recall began on June 24, 2015. Owners may contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-582-3454.
NHTSA campaign record ↗15V670000 · Equipment:Other:Labels | Tires
Reported: 2015-10-19 (October 19, 2015)
Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Utilimaster Vans manufactured July 11, 2014, to September 22, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with a Tire placard that indicates the wrong cargo capacity information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
Consequence: An incorrect label may result in the vehicle being overloaded which can cause tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Utilimaster will notify owners and will send a label with the cargo capacity information corrected, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2015. Owners may contact Utilimaster customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Spartan's number for this recall is 15024.
NHTSA campaign record ↗17V492000 · Seat Belts
Reported: 2017-08-07 (August 7, 2017)
Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Utilimaster Walk-In Vans. In the event of a crash, the seat belt D-ring mounting may detach, preventing the seat belt from restraining the occupant. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Consequence: A seat belt that does not keep the seat occupant restrained increases the risk of injury.
Remedy: Spartan will notify owners, and dealers will install a seat belt mounting reinforcement bracket, free of charge. The recall began on August 18, 2017. Owners may contact Spartan customer service at 1-517-543-6400. Spartan's number for this recall is 17020.
NHTSA campaign record ↗18V377000 · Seat Belts:Front:Retractor
Reported: 2018-06-06 (June 6, 2018)
Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain 1991-2018 Utilimaster Aeromaster and Walk-In Vans. These vehicles were manufactured with front seat belts that do not have an emergency locking seat belt retractor or automatic locking seat belt retractor. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Consequence: Without retractors, the seat belts may not accommodate different size occupants, therefore the occupants may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Spartan will notify owners and will install seat belts with retractors, free of charge. The recall began on August 6, 2018. Owners may contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Spartan's number for this recall is 18019.
NHTSA campaign record ↗19V477000 · Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights | Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Pedals And Linkages
Reported: 2019-06-21 (June 21, 2019)
Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain 2012-2019 Fleet Utilimaster Walk In vehicles built on a DTNA chassis. The brake pedal clevis pin clip may rub or bend on the throttle pedal and possibly detach.
Consequence: If the clip is detaches and clevis pin slides out of position, the brake lights may fail. Loss of brake lights may mislead other drivers if they are unaware the vehicle is stopping or slowing down, which increases the risk of crash. If the pin continues to slide out further, the pedal may detach, increasing the risk of crash.
Remedy: DTNA will notify Spartan owners, and DTNA dealers will inspect the clevis pin clearance and correct it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 22, 2019. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 or Spartan at 1-800-543-5008. Spartan's number for this recall is 19013.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2022: 0 complaints · 2023: 0 complaints

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2023 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
