Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

08V237000 · Visibility:Windshield Wiper/Washer:Linkages

Reported: 2008-05-28 (May 28, 2008)

VAN HOOL IS RECALLING 149 MY 2004-2007 C2045, T2140, AND T2145 MOTOR COACHES EQUIPPED WITH DOGA WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEMS. LINKAGES WERE POORLY FINISHED. THIS COULD LEAD TO A MISALIGNMENT OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM, BLOCKING THE MOTOR.

Consequence: FAILURE OF THE WIPER LINKAGES WILL LEAD TO WIPER SYSTEM BREAKDOWN. THE OPERATOR WILL HAVE REDUCED VISIBILITY WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy: VAN HOOL IS WORKING WITH DOGA AND DOGA WILL REPLACE THE WIPER MOTOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 23, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VAN HOOL (ABC COMPANIES) AT 1-407-656-7977.

Reported: 2010-12-01 (December 1, 2010)

VAN HOOL IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002 THROUGH 2011 TRANSIT BUSES AND MOTORCOACHES MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 2002 THROUGH OCTOBER 2010, EQUIPPED WITH HADLEY REMOTE MIRROR SWITCHES, PART NUMBERS 509VH AND 509VH1F. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR SWITCH MAY OVERHEAT, CAUSING THE PLASTIC HOUSING TO MELT.

Consequence: EXCESSIVE HEATING CAN CAUSE A FIRE RESULTING IN SMOKE, OPERATOR DISTRACTION, OR PERSONAL INJURY. AN OVERHEATED MIRROR SWITCH COULD CAUSE THE EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRRORS TO NOT OPERATE. THE MIRRORS MAY NOT ADJUST PROPERLY FROM THE INTERIOR SWITCH OR OPERATE POORLY. THEREFORE, THE DRIVER MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE FULL USE OF THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: VAN HOOL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS VIA ITS DEALER ABC BUS INC. OWNERS WILL HAVE THE CHOICE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR THEMSELVES OR TO TAKE THE VEHICLE(S) TO AN ABC-LOCATION FOR REPAIR, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 10, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE WARRANTY ADMINISTRATOR FOR ABC BUS, INC. TOLL FREE AT 1-877-427-7278.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
