DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT 2001 VOLVO WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED, AND THAT WAS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY IN THE MORNINGS. CONSUMER SUGGESTED THAT WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD IN THE MORNINGS AND UPON STARTING THE CAR IT STALLED BEFORE CONSUMER COULD GET IT INTO REVERSE. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE 2001. CONSUMER TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAD A NEW ELECTRONIC THROTTLE MODULE ( ETM) INSTALLED , THE COST WAS $1800.00. CONSUMER WAS UPSET O…

SUDDENLY THE ETS (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE SYSTEM) LIGHT OF MY 2000 VOLVO C70 WENT ON, THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OFF AND THE CAR WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LOSE POWER. I MANAGED TO GET HOME AND HAVE A LOCAL MECHANIC LOOK AT IT. HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING AND ONLY REPLACED THE GAS FILTER. 2000 VOLVO C70 CONVERTIBLE HAS NEEDED TWO AIRBAGS REPLACED IN LESS THAN 5000 MILES. THESE ARE NOT ACCIDENT RELATED. VOLVO INFORMS ME THIS IS ORDINARY AND THEY HOLD NO RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR THAT NEEDED AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. TOO BE SUCH A "SAFE" CAR THIS DOESN'T SEEM CORRECT. DO THEY HAVE A RECALL OR MANUFACTURING DEFECT? WHAT CAN BE DONE OTHER THAN PAYING $800.00 EVERY FIVE THOUSAND MILES? CAR HAS 50000 MILES ON IT. *JB

CONVERTIBLE TOP BACK BAR STRUCTURE CRACKED IN HALF AND TOP WILL NOT OPERATE(CLOSE OR OPEN) NOW. WHILE THE TOP BROKE, AS I WAS OPENING IT, IT ALSO FELL ON THE SENSOR FOR THE LOCK AND BROKE THAT ALSO. THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN FOR THIS PROBLEM, THE ONLY FIX IS ORDERING A NEW BAR AT THE COST OF $1500, WHICH I DON'T HAVE. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT I CANT DRIVE OR REPAIR. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2001 VOLVO C70 CONVERTIBLE USED WITH ~ 73,000 MILES IN 2006. IT NOW HAS 93,000 MILES. LAST SUMMER I HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIATOR BECAUSE IT CRACKED. ON THE EVENING OF TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22 WHILE RETURNING HOME ON THE BELTWAY, I BEGAN TO SMELL SOMETHING AND AN UP ARROW INDICATING I SHOULD SHIFT GEAR LIT ON THE DASHBOARD PANEL. I LEARNED TWO DAYS LATER, I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. NOW I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A FUEL PUMP RECALL. THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF MAJOR REPAIR WORK IN A FAIRLY YOUNG VEHICLE WITH SO FEW MILES, AND REGULA…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
