Recall history
5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
96V032000 · Suspension:Rear:Springs:Air Suspension System
Reported: 1996-02-12 (February 12, 1996)
THE REAR SUSPENSION AXLE RETENTION PLATE CAN BREAK UNDER NORMAL USE, AFFECTING AXLE ALIGNMENT.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF REAR AXLE STABILITY AFFECTING VEHICLE DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE AND REPLACE THE AXLE RETENTION CLIP PLATES ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V095000 · Service Brakes, Air
Reported: 1996-03-23 (March 23, 1996)
THE TRACTION SOLENOID EXHAUST CAN BE OBSTRUCTED DUE TO INADEQUATE DRAINAGE AND A BUILD-UP OF ROAD CONTAMINATION BETWEEN THE MOUNTING BRACKET AND THE SOLENOID HOUSING. THE OBSTRUCTED EXHAUST PREVENTS THE RELAY VALVE CONTROL AIR PRESSURE FROM VENTING AFTER A DIFFERENTIAL BRAKING TRACTION EVENT.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION WOULD KEEP THE REAR AXLE SERVICE BRAKES APPLIED WITHOUT ANY BRAKE PEDAL MOVEMENT BY THE DRIVER INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE SUSPECT VALVE AND INSTALL A NEW VALVE THAT HAS A MODIFIED SOLENOID HOUSING WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR SUFFICIENT DRAINAGE AND A NEW VALVE MOUNTING BRACKET WITH INCREASED HEIGHT TO REDUCE ENTRY OF CONTAMINATION.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V157000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components
Reported: 1996-08-27 (August 27, 1996)
THE REAR MOST AXLE OF THE TANDEM AXLE SET COULD HAVE INOPERABLE BRAKES ON ONE OR BOTH WHEELS BECAUSE THE BRAKE S-CAM WAS INCORRECTLY INSTALLED.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND REPAIR THE S-CAM ASSEMBLY IF FOUND REVERSED.
NHTSA campaign record ↗98V255000 · Suspension:Front:Springs:Air Suspension:Lines And Fittings
Reported: 1998-10-14 (October 14, 1998)
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL VALVE SUPPLY LINE WAS NOT PLUMBED THROUGH AN AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE. IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE, THERE WOULD BE LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE IN THE 'B' SYSTEM AIR RESERVOIR THAT SUPPLIES AIR PRESSURE FOR THE FRONT STEER AXLE BRAKES.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NECESSARY AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗99V240000 · Service Brakes, Air
Reported: 1999-08-30 (August 30, 1999)
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: DUAL STEER CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE FRONT STEER AXLE BRAKES DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS."
Consequence: A SLOW BRAKE RELEASE TIME CAN CAUSE PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR WHICH IF LEFT UNCHECKED COULD LEAD TO BRAKE FAILURE AND VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A RELAY VALVE IN THE FRONT STEERING AXLE BRAKE SYSTEM.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2003: 0 complaints · 2004: 0 complaints

Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2003 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 2004 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
