Recall history
4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
95V014000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer
Reported: 1995-01-01 (January 1, 1995)
STRAPS HOLDING THE SLEEPER UPPER BUNK IN THE RAISED POSITION CAN RELEASE WITHOUT WARNING.
Consequence: IF THE RESTRAINING STRAP RELEASES SUDDENLY, THEBUNK FALLS WITHOUT WARNING AND CAN STRIKE AN OCCUPANT SITTING IN THE LOWER BUNK CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE UPPER BUNK RETAINING STRAPS WITH AN IMPROVED AUTOMOTIVE SAFETY BELT STYLE DESIGN STRAP.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V022000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Exhaust System:Manifold/Header/Muffler/Tail Pipe
Reported: 1996-01-05 (January 5, 1996)
THESE HEAVY TRUCKS WERE EQUIPPED WITH EXHAUST MUFFLERS WITHOUT HEAT SHIELDING.
Consequence: SOMEONE WORKING BEHIND THE CAB COULD CONTACT THE HOT MUFFLER CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY. ALSO SOME OF THESE VEHICLES WERE EQUIPPED WITH DECK PLATES WITH NO GRAB HANDLES FOR ACCESS.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL MUFFLER SHIELDS AND, WHERE NECESSARY, GRAB HANDLES.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V025000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Springs
Reported: 1996-02-06 (February 6, 1996)
THE THROTTLE RETURN SPRINGS CAN FAIL.
Consequence: IF BOTH SPRINGS FAIL, THE ENGINE IS NOT LIKELY TO RETURN TO IDLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS RELEASED, CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL AND SUDDENLY INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: REPLACEMENT THROTTLE RETURN SPRINGS WILL BE MAILED DIRECTLY TO OWNERS. IF THE OWNERS PREFER, THEIR DEALERS CAN INSTALL THE SPRINGS FOR THEM.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V124003 · Suspension
Reported: 1996-08-01 (August 1, 1996)
THE EQUALIZING BEAM SHAFT OF THE TANDEM AXLE SUSPENSION WERE MANUFACTURED FROM AS-ROLLED SAE4140 STEEL RATHER THAN THE SPECIFIED ANNEALED SAE4140. THESE SHAFTS CAN FRACTURE INSIDE THE BEAM AT THE TOE OF THE WELD.
Consequence: VEHICLES ARE SUBJECT TO VEHICLE TILT AND POSSIBLE ROLLOVER IN THE EVENT THAT BOTH EQUALIZING BEAMS, ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, EXPERIENCE A SIMULTANEOUS SHAFT FAILURE. AFFECTED SUSPENSIONS CAN ALSO DROP AND CONTACT THE ROAD SURFACE GENERATING SPARKS WHICH COULD IGNITE FLAMMABLE MATERIAL.
Remedy: OWNER NOTIFICATION IS BEING CONDUCTED BY NEWAY ANCHORLOK. DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ALL SUSPENSION SUSPENSION BEAMS WITH SUSPENSION BEAMS CONTAINING APPROPRIATE SHAFTS.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1996: 1 complaints · 1999: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1996 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
| 1999 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1996 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| 1999 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
