Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

04V035000 · Electrical System:Wiring:Fuses And Circuit Breakers

Reported: 2004-01-28 (January 28, 2004)

ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES, AN INCORRECT 250-AMP GROUND FUSE WAS USED TO PROTECT BATTERY GROUND. THE CORRECT FUSE WAS RATED FOR 300 AMPS.

Consequence: THE INCORRECT FUSE COULD CAUSE SUDDEN LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE STALLING OR INOPERABLE LIGHTS INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE 250-AMP GROUND FUSE WITH A 350-AMP CONNECTOR. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT WESTERN RV AT 509-457-4133.

WE HAVE DISCOVERED A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT PERTAINS TO ALL LATE MODEL ALPINE COACH MOTORHOMES, MANUFACTURED BY WESTERN RV OF YAKIMA WASHINGTON. THE MANUFACTURER IS ONE OF MANY THAT IS NOW OUT OF BUSINESS, SO A RECALL THROUGH ORDINARY CHANNELS WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM AFFECTS AN INADEQUATE MOUNTING BRACKET FOR THE STEERING BOX THAT RESULTS IN SEVERE SWAY AND STRESS ON THE MOUNTING BRACKET. WE HAVE BOTH VIDEO EXAMPLES, AND EMAIL REPORTS FROM MANY ALPINE OWNERS THAT SUBSTANTIATE THE SCOPE AND SEVERITY OF TH…

I PURCHASED A 2006 ALPINE AVALANCHE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2007. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT THE ALPINE COACH'S USE AN ELECTRONIC MULTIPLEXING MODULE THAT RUNS EVERYTHING ON THE COACH SIDE. IT ALSO AFFECTS THE ENGINE OPERATION, CRUISE CONTROL, BRAKES ETC. ON MAY 4 WE WERE DRIVING FROM BUTTE, MONTANA TO SALT LAKE CITY WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OFF, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF AND WE WERE LEFT RIDING DOWN A HILL AT 65 MPH. IF I HAD NOT HAD EXPERIENCE DRIVING TRUCK I DO NOT KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THE MODULE IS MADE…

THIS TIME STILL IN SHOP SINCE JUNE 15 04, WHEN TALKING TO SERVICE REP AT WESTERN RV IN WASH. STATE. HE SAID BOSCH INSTALLED PINS WRONG [BRAKE MFG]. I HAVE NO FAITH THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN WITH POSSIBLE CATASTROPHIC RESULTS, PLEASE INTERVEEN NOW, THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO ON.*AK

THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. WE WERE ON A 7% INCLINE AND PROCEEDING AT 20MPH. THERE WAS CONSTRUCTION IN THE AREA AND WE WERE IN A LONG LINE OF VEHICLES. THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED OUR LIVES OR SERIOUS INJURY WAS THE ABILITY TO MANUALLY DOWNSHIFT TO ALMOST STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE ZERO BRAKES AND UPON GETTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE AIR ASSIT DID COMPLETE THE STOPPING BUT THE DOWNSHIFTING HAD US NEAR ZERO MPH ANYWAY. DT

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
