Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

07V313000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine:Diesel

Reported: 2007-07-20 (July 20, 2007)

ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES BUILT WITH CUMMINS ISL CM850 DIESEL ENGINES, THE CONNECTING ROD CONTAINS A MACHINING DEFECT IN THE WRIST PIN BUSHING OF THE ROD THAT COULD CAUSE A SEIZURE OF THE PISTON PIN.

Consequence: IF ALLOWED TO PROGRESS, THIS CAN LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THE ROD RUPTURING THE LOCK CAVITY, OIL AND DEBRIS ON THE ROADWAY AND VEHICLE CRASH.

Remedy: WESTERN RV IS WORKING WITH CUMMINS TO RECALIBRATE THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND ENHANCE THE ENGINE PROTECTION SYSTEM ENABLING IT TO PROVIDE EARLY DETECTION OF THE FAILURE MODE AND AVOID MORE SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE AND RESULTANT SAFETY HAZARD. CUMMINS WILL ALSO INSTALL A NEW VALVE COVER WITH A CRANKCASE PRESSURE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE (PLEASE SEE 07E033).

NHTSA campaign record ↗
08V005000 · Equipment:Recreational Vehicle/Trailer

Reported: 2008-01-09 (January 9, 2008)

ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH ATWOOD SEALED BURNER RANGES, THE RANGE AND SLIDE-IN BURNER TUBES LEADING FROM THE GAS MANIFOLD TO THE BURNER HEADS HAD A DEPRESSION OR "KINK" IN THE EXTERIOR BEND RESTRICTING PROPER AIRFLOW AND GAS MIXTURE.

Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING.

Remedy: WESTERN RV IS WORKING WITH ATWOOD TO HAVE THE TUBES REPLACED ON THESE RANGES (PLEASE SEE 07E030). THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ATWOOD AT 1-800-348-7418 OR WESTERN RV AT 1-509-457-4133.

ON MAY 4 WE WERE DRIVING FROM BUTTE, MONTANA TO SALT LAKE CITY WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OFF, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF AND WE WERE LEFT RIDING DOWN A HILL AT 65 MPH. THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. WE WERE ON A 7% INCLINE AND PROCEEDING AT 20MPH. THERE WAS CONSTRUCTION IN THE AREA AND WE WERE IN A LONG LINE OF VEHICLES. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
