DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE MOTORCYCLE'S SUBHARNESS AND THE CONNECTORS WENT OUT CAUSING THE HEADLIGHTS TO GO OUT. THIS HAD OCCURRED TWICE CAUSING THE CONTACT TO BE STRANDED WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHT.
I WAS IN FIRST GEAR RIDING THROUGH A NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN MY MOTORCYCLE STARTED TO JERK LIKE IT WAS STARVING FOR FUEL. I WAS UNABLE TO HOLD THE THROTTLE AT A CERTAIN LEVEL BECAUSE OF DANGEROUSLY JERKY MOTIONS. I PULLED THE CLUTCH IN TO COME TO A STOP AND AS THE RPM'S CAME DOWN TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED IT WENT PAST AND KILLED THE MOTOR. I BELIEVE AFTER HAVING DONE RESEARCH IT IS THE THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR WHICH WOULD BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. *TR
AFTER HEARING RUMORS ABOUT A TRANSMISSION RECALL ON THE 2015 YAMAHA R1 MOTORCYCLES, I RECEIVED MY RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL. YAMAHA STATES THAT 2ND, 3RD AND 4TH TRANSMISSION GEARS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO DEFORMATION/BREAKAGE. I JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THE BIKE (LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AGO) AND I AM VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH A BRAND NEW $16,000 MOTORCYCLE WITH 230 MILES ON IT BEING TORN APART AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THESE ENGINES ARE BUILT IN A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT WITH CALIBRATED TOOLS, THIS WILL NOT BE THE CASE DURING A REBUILD FROM A LOC…

THIS IS MY SECOND 2015 YAMAHA YZF-R1 MOTORCYCLE. THE FIRST ONE WAS NEVER REGISTERED, BUT WAS DEFECTIVE ON THE DEALER'S SHOWROOM FLOOR. THIS SECOND MOTORCYCLE WAS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE FIRST. NOW THAT I HAVE RECEIVED THIS RECALL, I WAS TOLD THE MOTORCYCLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT ANY TIME AND THAT IT WAS TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR IMMEDIATE REPAIR. UPON CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT PAY TO HAVE THE MOTORCYCLE PICKED UP NOR WOULD THEY REFUND MY MONEY OR ALLOW A FULL CREDIT TRADE TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF ANOT…

THE CONTACT STATED THEY RECEIVED BURNS TO THEIR INNER LEG AND THIGH AREA, DESPITE, WEARING JEANS. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. THE CONTACT CONTACTED THE DEALER BROWARD MOTORSPORTS OF FT LAUDERDALE (2100 W SUNRISE BLVD SUITE 161, FORT LAUDERDALE, FL 33311; PHONE: [phone removed]) TAKEN THE MOTORCYCLE TO THE DEALER. HAD A LEAK FROM THE ENGINE ON THE MOTORCYCLE YAMAHA R1. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND HAD REPAIRS DONE. THEY DID NOT SAY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT FIXED IT. SOMETHING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THIS WAS DONE A COUPLE OF MONTH EARLIER. NOW WHILE RIDING THE OIL STARTED POURING OUT OF THE ENGINE, AND TWO RIDERS BEHIND ME ACTUALLY FELL AND SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. WHEN INVESTIGATING THE LEAK TWO HUGE HOLES WERE FOUND IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. ONE JUST IN FRONT OF WHERE THE CHAIN WENT AROUND THE SPROCKET. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE T…
SYMPTOMS: 1. NORMAL RIDING. 2. BIKE JERKED VIOLENTLY A FEW TIME AT CRUISING SPEED (70MPH), ALMOST BUMPED ME OFF THE BIKE. ALSO, BIKE CUT OFF SEVERAL TIME WITHIN A 10MINUTES RIDE. IT HAPPENED ONCE DURING A TURN, AND THAT CAN BE DANGEROUS OR FATAL. 3. HOLDING THE CLUTCH IN AND IMMEDIATELY RE-STARTING IT WILL ALWAYS FIX THE PROBLEM... FOR A SHORT WHILE THE BIKE WILL RUN PROPERLY. *TR
WITH MY 2006 YAMAHA FZ1: WHILE NEGOTIATING A TURN AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND SLOWING DOWN, I APPLIED THROTTLE, THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND FOR ABOUT 1/2 SECOND AND THEN JERKED SIGNIFICANTLY. IT UPSET MY CONTROL AND I ALMOST CRASHED. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ABOVE 4500 RPM, BELOW THAT THROTTLE RESPONSE IS INSTANTANEOUS AND SMOOTH. *TR

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
