Owner report 10036907 · 2003-08-30 (August 30, 2003)
AS WITH MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THE YAMAHA R6 I HAVE EXPERIENCED PREMATURE FAILURE WITH THE MOTORCYCLES TRANSMISSION WITH ONLY 11,000 MILES ON THE BIKE. WHEN UNDER ACCELERATION IN 2ND GEAR THE BIKE WILL JUMP OUT OF GEAR AND SLIP. I VIEW THIS TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MANY AS HUNDREDS OF THESE MOTORCYCLES HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE MANUFACTURE COMPENSATE THE OWNERS OF THESE MOTORCYCLES IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. I FEEL LIKE YAMAHA HAS LEFT MANY PEOPLE HIGH AND DRY WITH THE BILL TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEE…

I HAVE A 2000 YAMAHA R6, AND I HAVE HAD MOTORCYCYLES MY WHOLE LIFE. MY BIKE HAS ONLY 10,000 MILES AND THE SECOND GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. YAMAHA CLAIMS THAT THIS IS DUE TO USERS IMPROPERLY SHIFTING. BUT THIS IS JUST A LIE TO COVER UP THAT THE BIKE IS IMPROPERLY DESIGNED OR BUILT SO THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO FIX ALL THESE BIKES. I HAVE RODE MY WHOLE LIFE AND I KNOW HOW TO RIDE A MOTORCYLCE PERFECTLY, SO I KNOW THE GEAR DID NOT GO BAD TO IMPROPER SHIFTING. AND JUST ABOUT EVER R6 HAS THIS PROBLEM GIVEN ENOUGH TIME. Recall history
1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
00V076000 · Unknown Or Other
Reported: 2000-03-13 (March 13, 2000)
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SIDESTAND SWITCH CAN LOOSEN AND FALL OUT DUE TO ENGINE HEAT AND VIBRATION. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SIDESTAND SWITCH WOULD NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY, SO IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO RIDE THE MOTORCYCLE WITH THE SIDESTAND IN THE DOWN POSITION.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION WOULD INCREASE THE RISK THAT THE SIDESTAND COULD HIT THE GROUND DURING A TURN, WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SCREWS HOLDING THE SIDESTAND SWITCH.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
2001: 1 complaints · 2002: 26 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |

| 2001 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
| 2002 | 8 | 21 | 26 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2001 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| 2002 | 27 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
