14V227000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine

Reported: 2014-05-01 (May 1, 2014) · Model years: 2014

Polaris Industries, Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain model year 2014 Victory Cross Country, Cross Country Eight Ball, Hammer Eight Ball, High Ball, Jackpot, Judge, Ness Cross Country, Vegas Eight Ball, Vision, Boardwalk, and 2015 Victory Gunner motorcycles manufactured January 22, 2014, through April 25, 2014. The crankcase may have been machined incorrectly causing insufficient clearance between the crankshaft and crankcase, causing the engine to unexpectedly seize.

Consequence: Engine seizure may cause the operator to lose control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Polaris will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the crankcase clearance, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 20, 2014. Owners may contact Polaris customer service at 1-888-704-5290. Note: Owners are advised not to ride their motorcycle until the recall remdy has been performed.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
