Recall history

1 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

94V185000 · Air Bags

Reported: 1994-09-28 (September 28, 1994) · Model years: 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER CARS. THE OWNER'S MANUALS FOR THESE VEHICLES DO NOT CONTAIN WARNING INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM, AS FOLLOWS: WARNING! IF YOUR CAR HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO FLOOD CONDITIONS (E.G., SOAKED CARPETING/STANDING WATER ON THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE) OR IF YOUR CAR HAS BEEN FLOOD DAMAGED IN ANY WAY, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICLE OR PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. THIS MAY CAUSE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY. HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED VOLVO DEALER FOR REPAIRS.

Consequence: IF THE OWNER HAS NOT BEEN ADVISED OF THE ABOVE, AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO THE ABOVE CONDITIONS, INADVERTENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT CAN RESULT AND CAUSE AN INJURY TO THE OCCUPANT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT.

Remedy: A LETTER WILL BE SENT TO VEHICLE OWNERS ASKING THEM TO PLACE THIS INFORMATION IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) SECTION OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL.

TURBO RETURN LINE UNSEALED AND LEAKING OIL. DEALER WANTED TO REPLACE ENTIRE TURBO; SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO A CAR, ESP. A VOLVO, THAT'S ONLY THREE YEARS OLD WITH 56K MILES ON IT. DEALER DID A TEMPORARY FIX BUT EVENTUALLY WILL AHVE TO REPLACE TURBO WAY BEFORE ITS TIME TO DO SO.

NO VEHICLES WERE ONCOMING OR HAD PASSED ME. I RADIOED TO THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME AND THEY DID NOT SEE ANY OBJECTS FLY UP OR AT THE WINDOW. Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
