Year-by-year records
Recall history
4 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.
94V038000 · Steering: Steering Wheel/Handle Bar
Reported: 1994-02-23 (February 23, 1994) · Model years: 1993, 1994
THE BRACKETS THAT ATTACH THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY TO THE CAB STRUCTURE CRACKS AT THE "V" NOTCH IN THE BRACKET.
Consequence: FAILURE OF THE BRACKET MAY CAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY TO FALL, WHICH MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
Remedy: VOLVO GM WILL REPLACE THE SUSPECT BRACKETS WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED BRACKET.
NHTSA campaign record ↗98V255000 · Suspension:Front:Springs:Air Suspension:Lines And Fittings
Reported: 1998-10-14 (October 14, 1998) · Model years: 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CLASS 8 HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS. THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL VALVE SUPPLY LINE WAS NOT PLUMBED THROUGH AN AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE. IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE, THERE WOULD BE LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE IN THE 'B' SYSTEM AIR RESERVOIR THAT SUPPLIES AIR PRESSURE FOR THE FRONT STEER AXLE BRAKES.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE NECESSARY AIR PRESSURE PROTECTION VALVE.
NHTSA campaign record ↗95V218000 · Service Brakes, Air:Controls, Pedals And Linkages
Reported: 1995-11-13 (November 13, 1995) · Model years: 1994, 1995
UNDERCOATING APPLIED TO THE INSIDE OF THE CAB SHELL SQUEEZED OUT DURING ASSEMBLY ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL PLUNGER.
Consequence: UNDERCOATING ON THE PLUNGER MAY CAUSE THE PLUNGER TO STICK RESULTING IN INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT AND/OR SLOW RELEASE OF THE BRAKES INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL CLEAN THE UNDERCOATING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL PLUNGER ASSEMBLY, LUBRICATE AND REINSTALL THE BRAKE PEDAL PLUNGER ASSEMBLY.
NHTSA campaign record ↗96V032000 · Suspension:Rear:Springs:Air Suspension System
Reported: 1996-02-12 (February 12, 1996) · Model years: 1995
THE REAR SUSPENSION AXLE RETENTION PLATE CAN BREAK UNDER NORMAL USE, AFFECTING AXLE ALIGNMENT.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF REAR AXLE STABILITY AFFECTING VEHICLE DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE AND REPLACE THE AXLE RETENTION CLIP PLATES ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.

Problems by model year
Model-wide comparison of the eight most reported components across the model. Cells show counts and shares within each model year. Open a cell for source examples.

Darker cells indicate a larger share of submitted complaints. Components overlap. This measures complaint composition, not failure probability.
Failure mileage by component
Median and middle 50% of usable owner-reported mileages. Ranges require at least five records.

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison
Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
1997: 0 complaints · 1998: 0 complaints
| Model year | Through age 0 | Through age 1 | Through age 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1997 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1998 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Date coverage across each selected cohort
| Year | Incident dates used | Filing date fallbacks | Excluded dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1997 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 1998 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
