Owner report 11532649 · 2023-07-17 (July 17, 2023)

The house battery bank in the rear of this RV contains two lithium Ion 125ma Batteries. The mounting system used to hold these batteries allows them to slide around, the movement of the batteries and hold-down brackets allows contact between the sharp metal hold-down brackets and the battery cables themselves. The resulting chaffing of the battery cables causes them to short out and catch fire. I caught mine barely in time, as you can see in the pictures the cable coating is being worn through and is compromised. Others have posted on this …

Owner report 11532882 · 2023-07-17 (July 17, 2023)

My engine’s cooling fan blade and clutch assembly became unscrewed from its belt-driven shaft. Once unscrewed, the assembly was suspended at its hub by 2 cables to the engine, one mechanical and one electrical. The suspended and swinging assembly then damaged the fan’s threaded shaft mount and the vehicle’s radiator. In other reported cases*, damage has also occurred to the radiator shroud, drive belts or other critical engine parts. Thankfully, in my case the failure occurred near my home on a quiet neighborhood street at low speed. Once I lo…

During our ownership we have experienced about(?) 12 failures of the Advanced Driver Assistance System, during our last trip of ≈1400 miles we experience this failure twice, both occurring while driving on a state highway while being passed in the opposite direction by on-coming traffic. This trip triggered a memory of at least one previous failure that also occurred while being passed in the opposite direction by on-coming traffic. When this failure happens the cruise contro…

Our 2020 Sprinter (Winnebago Revel) had 13,212 miles on it when I first reported this issue. During our ownership we have experienced many failures of the Advanced Driver Assistance System, one previous failure happened when where a semi-truck was preparing to pass me and was very close behind my van, when my vans cruise control deactivated we quickly slowed down and the driver of the truck had to take evasive maneuvers to avoid an accident. When this failure happens two error messages are displayed on the instrument display behind the steerin…

We were able to pull over, shut down the vehicle and open the doors. We found in the rear compartment where the lithium battery system is located a damaged/melted connection. Our brand new 2024 Winnebago Revel was smoking/caught fire from the lithium house battery while driving from Washington state to Alaska. The secondary alternator on our 2023 Winnebago Revel failed and caught fire. Fortunately, it happened when the vehicle was stopped so the fire was quickly put out and the damage limited to the alternator itself and the belt that ran the alternator. Had the failure happened in motion, a broken belt could have completely disabled the van, possibly endangering other traffic. Had we not noticed and extinguished the fire immediately, it could have consumed the entire vehicle and spread to the surroundings. This issue of faulty secondary alternators …

My Van is a Winnebago Revel and I received a Winnebago recall # 24V-318. Called Meyers RV of SYR, last week and was told to bring in vehicle. Today I called Meyers to confirm that I'd bring in on 12/18/24. Rachel and service manager at Meyers now tells me it is a Mercedes Sprinter repair. MB denies it, and after going back and forth 3 times I call Winnebago National Service. National service rep Lonnie states it is Winnebago recall and to look up technical bulletin. Meyers still refuses and I go back to Winnebago national. National states di…

Subject: Formal Complaint: Safety Issues with Winnebago Vehicle Dear [NTSB Representative], I am submitting a formal complaint regarding multiple safety-related defects with my Winnebago vehicle that have caused significant risk and inconvenience: 1.Electrical Fire: The galley caught fire due to rigid residential wiring rubbing against a plumbing clamp. The wire shorted, grounded out, and caused a fire before the breaker tripped, filling the cab with smoke. 2.While driving in cold mountain pass conditions, the sliding door window blew out, fo…

The secondary alternator of our 2023 Winnebago Revel failed, was smoking heavily, and was seconds away from catching fire had I not stood by with a fire extinguishers. I noticed the issue after driving for about an hour and only noticed smoke when I had pulled into a Home Depot to park. I only noticed the smoke when I had parked (not while underway). This is a well known problem with Winnebago Revels, with many owners reporting (on Facebook Winnebago Revel 4x4 page) these Balmar 170 alternators catching fire and failing. This is an extreme …

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Our brand new 2024 Winnebago Revel was smoking/caught fire from the lithium house battery while driving from Washington state to Alaska.
