Recall history

2 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

20V814000 · Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights:Switch

Reported: 2020-12-28 (December 28, 2020) · Model years: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2018-2020 MTT9GT (Tracer GT), 2019 MXTGTKL (NIKEN GT), 2017-2020 MT10, 2018-2020 XTZ12 (Super Ténéré), 2013-2020 FJR13, 2018 XV19B (Star Eluder), and 2018-2021 XV19 (Star Venture) motorcycles. The front brake switch can fail due to increased resistance from silicon oxide.

Consequence: Failure of the front brake switch can cause the brake light to stay on constantly and/or the cruise control system to shutoff unexpectedly. Both situations increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake switch, free of charge. The recall began January 20, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990140. Note: Owners are advised not to operate their motorcycle until the repairs have been performed.

Reported: 2025-04-16 (April 16, 2025) · Model years: 2022, 2023, 2024

Pure Sports Distributing Inc. (Yamaha of Hawaii) is recalling certain 2022 MT-09 Tracer GT, 2021-2025 MT-09 SP, 2021-2025 MT-09, 2022-2023 and 2025 MT-10 SP, 2022-2024 MT-10 and 2022-2024 XSR900 motorcycles. The brushes inside the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) may slide excessively due to improper ECU programming, possibly causing unstable idling or an engine stall.

Consequence: Unstable idling or an engine stall can lead to loss of control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of an injury or crash.

Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the engine control unit (ECU) software and replace the TPS, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 6, 2025. Owners may contact Yamaha of Hawaii customer service at 1-808-498-8248.

Vehicle: 2026 Yamaha MT-10 I am reporting a safety-related defect involving my 2026 Yamaha MT-10 motorcycle. The motorcycle has experienced an intermittent no-crank/no-start condition. When the problem occurs, the instrument panel and electrical system power up normally, but pressing the starter button produces no engine cranking. The defect occurs unpredictably. At times the motorcycle starts normally, while at other times it will not start despite having battery power and the ignition system turned on. Because the condition is intermittent,…

When pulling the front brake lever, if it is pulled lightly the rear brake does not light up at all. It has to have a certain amount of pressure applied to it before the rear brake lights up. The rear brake as soon as it is pressed it lights the rear light up. I have had Petes Cycle in Baltimore MD look at this and they have advised this is how Yamaha has this setup, it has been confirmed and reproduced by dealer. This is a HUGE safety issue in my opinion and should be looked into and Yamaha should be forced to fix this. People that are behin…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison
