THIRD GEAR STARTED TO BECOME VERY NOISY, SOMETHING THAT OTHER STRATOLINER OWNERS HAVE NOTICED. THE PROBLEM IS WITH A GEAR THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY HEAT TREATED. WHEN I TOOK THE MOTORCYCLE TO THE DEALER BEFORE THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED I WAS TOLD THE MECHANIC COULD NOT HEAR THE NOISE. THE NOISE IS QUITE OBVIOUS. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED YAMAHA AND WAS TOLD THAT SINCE MODIFICATIONS WERE DONE (AN AFTERMARKET BELT AND PULLEY AND REAR TIRE) THAT WAS THE CAUSE. MIND YOU, THIS IS A MOTORCYCLE THAT IS RODE ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH QUITE A F…

THE MOTORCYCLE IS MAKING KNOCKING NOISES WHILE DOWNSHIFTING THRU 3RD AND 2ND GEARS. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO SEEMS TO HOWL WHILE AT LOW SPEED IN 3RD GEAR. I AM AFRAID TO RIDE FOR THE FEAR OF TRANSMISSION LOCKING UP!!!! *TR

YAMAHA HAS A DEFECTIVE 3RD GEAR ISSUE WITH THE XV1900 MOTORCYCLES IN THE YEARS 2006 AND 2007. MY THIRD GEAR STARTED GRINDING DURING NORMAL OPERATION, WHICH MAKES IT TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ANY LONGER, AS MAINTAINING SPEED IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT YAMAHA HAS NOT ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL FOR YET. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS 06 ROADLINER. THIS ISSUE WAS DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS AND NOT DUE TO ABUSE OR NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.

EXTREME JERKING AND STALLING OF THE ENGINE AT HWY SPEEDS IN A CONGESTED AREA CAUSING EXTREME WORRY ABOUT BEING HIT FROM BEHIND OR BEING TOSSED OFF AND TRASHED ON I-40. DURING THE MECHANICAL INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL PUMP'S PLASTIC HOUSING HAS A FLAW, THERE IS A COLD MOLD LINE IN THE PRESSURE VESSEL. THERE IS A LONG AREA OF THE HOUSING THAT IS VISIBLY FLAWED; AN EXCESSIVELY THIN WALL SECTION THAT IS A RESULT OF A MOLDING PROCESSES INABILITY TO MAINTAIN PROPER MOLD FLOW AT THE PROPER TEMP TO ASSURE A COMPLETELY SOLID PRESSURE …

THE MOTORCYCLE SPEEDOMETER , ODOMETER PANEL LEAKS MOISTURE AND AS A RESULT DOES NOT SHOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE TANK OR HOW MANY MILES ON THE BIKE . ALSO SPEEDOMETER SOMETIMES FAILS AS WELL DUE TO FAULTY SEALANT AND OR PART OF THE MOTORCYCLE . I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE DEALER AND THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX IT. DEALER TOLD ME THAT LOTS OF MODELS OF THIS YEAR HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THERE ARE NO SPARE PARTS FOR 4 YEARS NOW.

I OWN A '07 YAMAHA STRATOLINER AND IT'S GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO GET INTO 3RD GEAR, I HAVE TO STRETCH OUT 2ND BY PASS 3RD AND GO INTO 4TH. THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN ON A BIKE THAT HAS ONLY 19, 000 MILES ON IT.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
