Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

20V814000 · Exterior Lighting:Brake Lights:Switch

Reported: 2020-12-28 (December 28, 2020) · Model years: 2018, 2020

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2018-2020 MTT9GT (Tracer GT), 2019 MXTGTKL (NIKEN GT), 2017-2020 MT10, 2018-2020 XTZ12 (Super Ténéré), 2013-2020 FJR13, 2018 XV19B (Star Eluder), and 2018-2021 XV19 (Star Venture) motorcycles. The front brake switch can fail due to increased resistance from silicon oxide.

Consequence: Failure of the front brake switch can cause the brake light to stay on constantly and/or the cruise control system to shutoff unexpectedly. Both situations increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake switch, free of charge. The recall began January 20, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990140. Note: Owners are advised not to operate their motorcycle until the repairs have been performed.

21V836000 · Equipment:Other:Labels

Reported: 2021-10-25 (October 25, 2021) · Model years: 2021

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2021 Tracer 900 GT (MTT9GTM) motorcycles. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) printed on the Federal Certification label may not match the VIN stamped on the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

Consequence: An owner that references an incorrect VIN label may not recognize their vehicle is involved in a safety recall, and may not have the recall remedy performed, which could increase the risk of injury, fire, or a crash.

Remedy: Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will install a correct certification label, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 12, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990151.

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2021 Tracer 9 GT (MTT9GT) motorcycles. The throttle grip may break if used to pull up a motorcycle fallen on its side.

Consequence: A broken throttle grip may restrict throttle movement or cause a loss of throttle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Owners should not operate their motorcycle, other than to take it to a dealer, until the remedy is performed. Dealers will replace the grip end and if necessary, the throttle grip assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 17, 2022. Reported: 2022-03-07 (March 7, 2022) · Model years: 2021, 2022

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain 2021-2022 MT-09, MT-09 SP, and MTT9GT (Tracer 9 GT) motorcycles. Improper electronic control unit (ECU) programming may limit the throttle response, cause an engine stall, or fail to illuminate the engine warning light when a system error occurs.

Consequence: Limited throttle response, engine stall, or a missing warning light can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Owners should not operate their motorcycle, other than to take it to a dealer, until the remedy is performed. Dealers will reprogram the ECU, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 17, 2022. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-866-894-1626. Yamaha's number for this recall is 990158.

25V248000 · Vehicle Speed Control:Throttle:Throttle Position Sensor (Tps) | Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine:Engine Control Module (Ecu/Ecm):Software

Reported: 2025-04-16 (April 16, 2025) · Model years: 2022

Pure Sports Distributing Inc. (Yamaha of Hawaii) is recalling certain 2022 MT-09 Tracer GT, 2021-2025 MT-09 SP, 2021-2025 MT-09, 2022-2023 and 2025 MT-10 SP, 2022-2024 MT-10 and 2022-2024 XSR900 motorcycles. The brushes inside the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) may slide excessively due to improper ECU programming, possibly causing unstable idling or an engine stall.

Consequence: Unstable idling or an engine stall can lead to loss of control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of an injury or crash.

Remedy: Dealers will reprogram the engine control unit (ECU) software and replace the TPS, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 6, 2025. Owners may contact Yamaha of Hawaii customer service at 1-808-498-8248.

After the remedy to a recent recall was applied on my motorcycle, the ECU reflash has rendered my motorcycle unsafe at low speed until it has warmed up. It has stalled pulling into traffic, sputtered and hesitated. Once the bikes warms up it runs as it should. The tune is not correct for the operating conditions while the engine is not up to proper temperature.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
