08V461000 · Steering:Linkages:Rod:Relay:Connecting

Reported: 2008-09-11 (September 11, 2008) · Model years: 2007

YAMAHA IS RECALLING 4,800 MY 2007 XF50 AND XC50 MOTORCYCLES. A CRACK MAY DEVELOP ON THE CONNECTING ROD. IF THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO BE RUN, THE CRACK WILL DEVELOP FURTHER AND THE CONNECTING ROD MAY BREAK.

Consequence: IF THE CONNECTING ROD BREAKS, THE ENGINE WILL STOP AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL DISASSEMBLE THE ENGINE AND THE CRANKSHAFT WILL BE REPLACED WITH ONE THAT HAS A PROPERLY HEAT-TREATED CONNECTING ROD. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926.

2007 YAMAHA C3 SCOOTER. I DID NOT HAVE THE OPTION OF THAT MODEL ON YOUR DROP DOWN MENU SO I JUST PICKED ANYONE TO CONTINUE WITH THE COMPLAINT. IT IS A C3 49CC SCOOTER. FUEL PUMP SHUTS OFF AND YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC OR TURNING. IT HAD SHUT OFF SEVERAL TIMES DURING THAT DAY AND I DID NOT WANT TO GET INJURED OR DIE BECAUSE OF IT SHUTTING DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. VERY DANGEROUS. I MANAGED TO BE ON THE SIDE SO WAS ABLE TO PULLOVER WHEN THE ENGINE DIED. CALLED YAMAHA AND THEY SAID THEY WILL REPLACE IT BUT DID NOT MAKE IT A RECALL FOR SAFETY ISSUES. THE…

MY VEHICLE HAS A TENDENCY TO CUT OUT, IT STARTED AFTER ABOUT 8000 MILES AND HAPPENS USUALLY WHEN IT'S RUN AT LOW RPM'S ALLOWING IT TO HEAT UP, SUCH AS IN TRAFFIC. ONCE THIS HAPPENS IT DOESN'T STOP UNTIL THE IGNITION IS TURNED, CLEARING THE COMPUTER! THE BIG PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS A MOTORCYCLE,THIS ALSO HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY AT 65-70! I'VE BEEN TOLD AND RESEARCHED CHAT FORUMS, THIS POSSIBLY WHAT IS CALLED A "THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR", IN THE CHAT FORUMS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM, THIS PROBLEM COULD POTETIALLY CAUSE A RI…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
