Owner report 10419466 · 2011-08-15 (August 15, 2011)

I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A FUEL PUMP FAILURE ON MY 2008 YAMAHA WR250X WITH 6700 MILES. I RODE IT TO WORK AND ON MY WAY HOME IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 90 DEGREES AND THE FUEL PUMP STARTED CUTTING OUT. I TRIED STOPPING AND FILLING UP, LETTING THE BIKE COOL, WAITING UNTIL COOLER OUTSIDE. FUEL PUMP CONTINUES TO CUT OUT. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON ENTHUSIAST WEBSITES AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY COMPLAINT TO HELP AVOID SOMEONE BEING STRANDED SOMEWHERE. *TR

I AM SUBMITTING AN INCIDENT REPORT FOR A HEAT-RELATED FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP THAT CAUSES AN ENGINE STALLING CONDITION AND A FAILURE TO RE-START. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION SINCE MY MOTORCYCLE QUIT WHILE RIDING ON THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT RE-START UNTIL THE MOTORCYCLE COOLED. IN TRAFFIC THIS WOULD BE A CERTAIN SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL MOTORCYCLE AND ITS 'SISTER' MODEL, THE WR250X (GOOGLE SEARCH WILL LEAD TO MANY REPORTS AND INFORMATION.) Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
