04V475000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Drum:Shoes/Linings

Reported: 2004-10-01 (October 1, 2004) · Model years: 2005

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES AND SCOOTERS, THE REAR BRAKE SHOE MATERIAL COULD SEPARATE DUE TO IMPROPER ADHESIVE CURING.

Consequence: IF SUCH SEPARATION OCCURS DURING OPERATION, BRAKING ABILITY WITH THE REAR WHEEL WILL BE REDUCED OR LOST, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE SHOES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 8, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-889-2624.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
