Recall history

6 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

14V119000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Engine

Reported: 2014-03-12 (March 12, 2014) · Model years: 2014

Zero Motorcycles, Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain model year 2014 Zero SR motorcycles manufactured December 30, 2013, through February 20, 2014, 2014 Zero S motorcycles manufactured December 26, 2013, through February 18, 2014, Zero DS motorcycles manufactured January 24, 2013, through February 4, 2014, and 2014 Zero FX motorcycles manufactured January 14, 2014, through January 27, 2014. Due to a possible manufacturing defect, the motor rotor may contact the stator while riding.

Consequence: If the rotor contacts the stator, the motor could seize, locking up the rear wheel which could increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Zero will notify owners, and dealers will test the motor and if it fails testing, replace it, free of charge. The recall began in April 11, 2014. Owners may contact Zero at 1-888-786-9316 (1-888-RUN-ZERO).

16V610000 · Exterior Lighting | Electrical System | Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Antilock/Traction Control/Electronic Limited Slip

Reported: 2016-08-22 (August 22, 2016) · Model years: 2015

Zero Motorcycles Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain model year 2015 SR, S, DS, and FX motorcycles. The affected motorcycles have a DC-DC converter that may have insufficient output power. During high power demand, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) may not function properly.

Consequence: If the converter power output is insufficient, during an ABS activated event, the ABS and all vehicle lights would temporarily stop functioning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Zero has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the DC-DC converters, replacing ones of a specific type as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on September 16, 2016. Owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero's number for this recall is SV-ZMC-016-356.

17V762000 · Equipment:Other:Labels

Reported: 2017-11-28 (November 28, 2017) · Model years: 2018

Zero Motorcycles Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain 2018 S ZF13.0, S ZF7.2, SR ZF14.4, DS ZF13.0, DSR ZF14.4, FX ZF7.2, and FXS ZF7.2 motorcycles. The information on the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Label may indicate the wrong model year. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

Consequence: If the affected 2018 motorcycles are ever subject to a recall, the owner may not realize the safety risk because of the misstated model year.

Remedy: Zero will notify owners, and dealers will replace the incorrect label with a corrected label, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in December 2017. Owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero's number for this recall is SV-ZMC-017-380.

20V640000 · Electrical System:Propulsion System:Dc/Dc Converter

Reported: 2020-10-15 (October 15, 2020) · Model years: 2021

Zero Motorcycle Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain 2021 SR, S, DSR, DS, FX, and FXS motorcycles. The DC-DC converter has an insufficient power output margin to operate the anti-lock braking system (ABS), instruments, lights, indicators, and any accessories that are connected to the accessory outlet at once.

Consequence: The DC-DC converter can shut off when its power capacity is exceeded, shutting off the ABS, instruments, and lights, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Zero will notify owners, and dealers will replace the DC-DC converter, free of charge. The recall began October 26, 2020. Owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero's number for this recall is SV-ZMC-021-019.

Consequence: The incorrect rear brake pads may not work as intended, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the rear brake pads, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 10, 2021. Owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero's number for this recall SV-ZMC-022-018.

22V403000 · Service Brakes, Hydraulic:Foundation Components:Disc:Caliper

Reported: 2022-06-08 (June 8, 2022) · Model years: 2022

Zero Motorcycles Inc. (Zero) is recalling certain 2022 SR and SR/F motorcycles. Incorrect front brake caliper bolts may have been installed and could damage the mounting threads on the fork, causing the caliper to loosen.

Consequence: A loose caliper may reduce braking, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and as necessary, replace the front brake caliper bolts and forks, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 27, 2022. Owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero's number for this recall is SV-RCL-022-004.

I COULD HAVE DIED. FOR 7 MONTHS MY 2014 ZERO SR HAS BEEN WAITING ON ZERO SERVICE. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD A NEW BATTERY WAS NEEDED. MOTORCYCLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 50-55MPH AND RANGE HAD FALLEN FROM 70-90 MILES TO LESS THEN 20 MILES. ZERO MADE EXCUSES FOR MONTHS WHY THEY COULDN'T PROPERLY SERVICE. I SPOKE WITH AN AARON SEVERAL TIMES, ALSO ZACK. ZERO THEN REPLACED THE CONTROLLER CLAIMING IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BATTERY. I FINALLY RECEIVED THE SR BACK AND IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE MOTORCYCLE DROPPED FROM A FULL CHARGE …

I AM A NEW OWNER OF THIS MOTORCYCLE AND IT FALLS OUT THE LIGHT AND AS I NOTICED UNCONTROLLED THE SIGNAL LIGHT, BRAKE BOOSTER, ABS .. . IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH THIS BIKE AND YOU COULD GET A PENALTY IN OUR COUNTRY . THE MOTORCYCLE WAS ONLY USED FOR SHORT DISTANCES. I HAVE THE OPINION THAT NOT EVERY CUSTOMER CAN BE AN EXPERT AND CONSTANTLY CHECK THE NEWLY PURCHASED (6000KM TOTAL MILEAGE) MOTORCYCLE FOR MANUFACTURER ERROR OR EVEN WORSE MAYBE AN ACCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES ANY WARRANTY PROCESSING BY THE REASONS THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN…

I OWN A ZERO S 2018, WHEN I OFTEN EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS AND THE MOTORCYCLE DOES NOT START. ZERO DOES NOT GIVE SUPPORT EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A 5-YEAR WARRANTY, NO TRAINING, NO INFORMATION. THERE IS NO DEALER IN ISRAEL, I ALSO SENT THEM A FEW EMAILS ON THE SUBJECT. I DID NOT GET AN ANSWER OTHER THAN ADVERTISEMENTS ABOUT THE NEW MOTORCYCLE THEY'RE INVESTING IN. I WOULD LIKE YOUR HELP TO FIND A SOLUTION FOR MY PROBLEM AND DOZENS IF NOT HUNDREDS OF ISRAELI ZERO-TYPE MOTORCYCLE OWNERS.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.
