Reported: 2017-12-15 (December 15, 2017) · Model years: 2016, 2017
Piaggio Group Americas. Inc. (Piaggio) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Aprilia RSV4 1000 motorcycles (including RR, Factory Superpole, and RF Superpole), and 2017 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 motorcycles (including RR and Factory Superpole). These motorcycles are equipped with Brembo front brake master cylinders that may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 122, "Motorcycle Brake Systems."
Consequence: If the front brake master cylinder fails, the loss of front braking ability can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Aprilia will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder piston, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 2018. Owners may contact Aprilia customer service at 1-212-380-4433.

I WAS RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE IN THE DAY TIME LATE SUMMER 2014, THEN DECIDED TO STOP AT THE BARBER SHOP FOR A HAIR CUT. I PARKED THE MOTORCYCLE IN FRONT THEN WENT INSIDE. WHEN MY HAIR CUT WAS FINISHED, I GOT ON THE BIKE THEN TRIED TO START IT BUT IT WOULD NOT START. I TRIED PUSH STARTING IT, JUMPING IT, AND STILL NO STARTING. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED PARTS AND STARTED THE MOTORCYCLE. THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AFTERWARDS, ABOUT TWICE MORE THAT SAME YEAR, THEN THE NEXT YEAR, SPRING 2015, IT H…
The motorcycle overheats to temperatures in excess of 250°f after being stuck in traffick for less than 10 minutes. the amount of heat under the gas tank is pretty scary. The warning lights go on but in order to avoid being burned you need to pull over and get off the motorcycle. Its a brand new $26,000 motorcycle with apparently a known issue with the radiator as well as the mix of fluid in the radiator. That's according to the dealer although i'm not getting straight answers from the Aprilia's headquarters in North America located in NY…

Emerging complaint spikes
Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.
This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.
No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.
Equal-age model-year comparison

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
