Owner report 11713011 · 2026-01-23 (January 23, 2026)

My wife was driving home after picking up my daughter from a nearby school around 3:30pm on Thursday 1/22/2026. She was driving down a road maybe at 35mph and while her foot was on the accelerator the car did a hard brake though there's nothing in front of her nor is the adaptive cruise on. She didn't hit any button and was taken by surprise along with my daughter. Luckily the car behind her was far away and didn't hit them. We haven't yet informed the dealer. This has happened before and the car has about 3900 miles on it.

We have been driving the new GM Chevy 2024 Equinox EV for a few days (only 74 miles so far) and it has been great but wanted to report a safety concern with the design of the front dash board and curvature/angle of the windshield. It is as follows. When driving into the sun on a bright sunny day there is a bad reflection from the rippled dashboard back on to the interior windshield. This makes it more difficult to see the road ahead. Leading to driver eye fatigue and possible distractions when driving into bright sunshine.

On sunny days the reflective glare off of the dashboard is incredibly unsafe. At times you have serious issues seeing through the reflections to actually see what is on the road ahead of you. Polarized sunglasses do help reduce this glare, but not eliminate it. Sunglasses are also not always available to people driving the vehicle for various reasons. It has been confirmed by many independent drivers and GM is also aware if the issue.

I was traveling on a two lane road at about 50mph and the car applied full strength regenerative braking without warning, quickly slowing down to about 40mph when I took over the throttle. I can’t remember if I was using adaptive cruise control but I believe I was. No other beeps or alerts were present (as with AEB events). There was NO other traffic present and it was middle of the afternoon with no weather except a bit cloudy. I have no idea what hazard the car could have been reacting to.

Defective turn signal stalk -- often after I engage the right turn signal and complete a right turn, the left turn signal will flash for approximately three blinks, falsely alerting others in my vicinity that I'm preparing for a left turn or lane change. Additionally, it is often difficult to engage the right turn signal, as the stalk won't stay engaged, making it difficult for me to signal a right turn or lane change.

I was in a parking lot and parking at an EV charger. As I attempted the brake, the vehicle did not respond, so I tried to pump the brake and still no response. It eventually made contact with the barrier in front of the charger. It caused some damage to the front end and several lights are lit up on the dash that aren't normally lit. This took place over the course of maybe 2-3 seconds, so minimal time to react to the brakes failing. The vehicle went over 3k miles earlier that day and leased back in Sept 24, so still fairly new. The turn signal going in either direction has 2 positions. The first is regular on that keeps the turn signal on until it is turned off or until steering wheel is turned off. After engaging the right turn signal and turning the wheel in that direction, then turning it back to the center for some reason makes the left turn signal click on for three clicks. The frontal collision warning system is way too sensitive when creeping up to stopped traffic it will beep when there is no risk of collision. And finally the blindspot detection sometimes warns the driver even when there's traffic coming from the opposite direction on the road when there's no risk of collision.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

No selected model years have a complete observation window. Choose an eligible year or a shorter window.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, at approximately 12:00 PM, I was driving my 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV RS on the highway at about 65 mph. The weather conditions were clear and sunny. Without warning, the vehicle's automatic emergency braking (AEB) system abruptly engaged with full force, causing a severe and sudden deceleration. There were no vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles in front of my vehicle at the time. There was active traffic trailing my vehicle. Fortunately, the driver directly behind me had enough following distance to react in time…

On numerous occasions, while driving either on highways or streets, vehicle would brake on its own or aggressive braking when this type of braking was unnecessary. I was hospitalized for whiplash in one incident. After braking for NO REASON!!! GM sent a tow truck to pick up my vehicle, and I have not heard back for more than 100 days. If GM cannot fix this issue as stated in [XXX] then I should be compensated for the lack of use and my medical bills as well as loss of use. Not having a recall does not mean DEFECTS are not occurring!!!! INFORMAT…

On February 23, 2026, while driving my 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV home from Folsom Chevrolet following a prior repair visit, the “Service Park Assist System” warning illuminated, first intermittently, then after a few miles, continuously for the remainder of the 11-mile drive home. During the same drive, while reversing with no objects present behind or around the vehicle, the automatic emergency braking system activated and applied the brakes with significant force without cause. The vehicle was returned to Folsom Chevrolet (Repair Order #5593…

The Equinox EV has rear Automatic Emergency Braking. On multiple occasions while backing up the vehicle's AEB has activated by slamming on the parking brake. A check of the rear camera and sensor system shows the vehicle detected nothing. A visual check also shows nothing behind the vehicle that's outside the sensor system's.

The inability to permanently turn on the warning only option for front and rear emergency braking after the latest OTA update. Phantom braking conditions still exist for this model and occur at unexpected times causing potential rear end collisions with following vehicles.

I feel compelled to report this issue after 3rd incident and also after raising with the dealer service.
