Owner report 10420290 · 2011-08-16 (August 16, 2011)

THE COMPOSITE GAS TANK HAS EXPANDED DUE TO AN INTERACTION WITH THE FUEL. THE FUEL TANK SWELLS AND BULGES FROM THE FRAME OF THE BIKE. THE MALFORMATION OF THE TANK CAUSES THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION TO CONTACT THE TANK WHILE RIDING AND TURNING. THE CONTACT IS CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FINISH AND CRACKS IN THE TANK. THE OPENING FOR THE KEY IN THE TANK IS OBSTRUCTED AND COULD PREVENT THE LOCKING MECHANISM FROM WORKING AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER IS REPLACING TANKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMATIC TANK IF THE VEHICLE IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY …

I WAS RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE, A 2010 DUCATI STREETFIGHTER, WHEN THE ENGINE CUT OUT WHILE I WAS LEANED OVER IN A SLOW TURN (10-15MPH). THE ENGINE STOPPED COMPLETELY LOCKING UP THE REAR WHEEL, AND BECAUSE I WAS IN A TURN, IT CAUSED THE REAR WHEEL TO SLIDE, CAUSING ME TO WRECK MY MOTORCYCLE. THE ENGINE OF A MOTORCYCLE SHOULD NEVER, EVER TURN OFF WHILE RIDING (I DID NOT RUN OUT OF GAS, TURN THE IGNITION KEY OR TOUCH THE KILL SWITCH). THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE KILLED ME, HAD IT HAPPENED IN THE CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. I HAVE CONTACTED DUCATI NORTH AMER…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
