NEW BIKE @ 3000 MILES HAS THE FUEL TANK EXPANDING AND SWELLING. THE TANK GETS DEFORMED AND CLEARANCE ISSUES BECOME EVIDENT. THE FRONT FORKS START HITTING THE TANK AND CRACKS BEGIN TO FORM. THE TANK WILL PUNCTURE SOON. DUCATI DEALER TAKES PHOTOGRAPHS AND SENDS THEM TO HEADQUARTERS. THEY APPROVE A REPLACEMENT TANK. I FEEL THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MATERIAL OF THE TANK (PLASTIC) AND THE ETHANOL IN THE FUEL. THIS PROBLEM WILL KEEP HAPPENING IF THE MATERIAL IS NOT CHANGED. I WAS RIDING MY MOTORCYCLE, A 2010 DUCATI STREETFIGHTER, WHEN THE ENGINE CUT OUT WHILE I WAS LEANED OVER IN A SLOW TURN (10-15MPH). THE ENGINE STOPPED COMPLETELY LOCKING UP THE REAR WHEEL, AND BECAUSE I WAS IN A TURN, IT CAUSED THE REAR WHEEL TO SLIDE, CAUSING ME TO WRECK MY MOTORCYCLE. THE ENGINE OF A MOTORCYCLE SHOULD NEVER, EVER TURN OFF WHILE RIDING (I DID NOT RUN OUT OF GAS, TURN THE IGNITION KEY OR TOUCH THE KILL SWITCH). THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE KILLED ME, HAD IT HAPPENED IN THE CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. I HAVE CONTACTED DUCATI NORTH AMER…

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
