Recall history

5 distinct campaigns affect this selection. Announcement dates below are different from vehicle model years. A campaign may cover multiple years.

85V106000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:Storage:Tank Assembly:Filler Pipe And Cap

Reported: 1985-08-27 (August 27, 1985) · Model years: 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985

MAIN FUEL TANK FILLER CAP MAY DISENGAGE SUDDENLY WHEN REMOVING THE CAP FOR REFUELING. THE SUDDEN CAP DISENGAGEMENT PERMITS EXPULSION OF VAPOR AND UNDER SOME CIRCUMSTANCES, SPRAYS GASOLINE AROUND THE SURROUNDING AREA OR PERSONS. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE GASOLINE SPILLAGE MAY CAUSE A FIRE AND/OR AN EXPLOSION IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT.

Remedy: REQUIRES THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SINGLE STAGE BAYONET CAP WITH A TWO STAGE CAP WHICH REQUIRES AN ADDITIONAL ROTATION PRIOR TO REMOVAL. ALSO A WARNING LABEL STICKER WILL BE ISSUED TO BE INSTALLED JUST ABOVE THE GASOLINE FILL OPENING.

85V056000 · Trailer Hitches

Reported: 1985-05-01 (May 1, 1985) · Model years: 1984, 1985

TRAILER HITCHES CAN CRACK AT THE MOUNTING FLANGES AND SEPARATE FROM THE MOTORHOME WHILE BEING USED IN TRAILER OR CAR TOWING SERVICE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: IF COMPLETE SEPARATION OCCURS, CONTROL WOULD BE LOST OF THE TOWED VEHICLE; THIS COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: MODIFY OR REPLACE HITCH, AS REQUIRED.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
85V138000 · Engine And Engine Cooling:Exhaust System:Manifold/Header/Muffler/Tail Pipe

Reported: 1985-10-25 (October 25, 1985) · Model years: 1985, 1986

GENERATOR TAILPIPE CAN BECOME DAMAGED SO THAT IT TERMINATES UNDER THE MOTORHOME BODY ALLOWING EXHAUST GASES TO LEAK UNDER THE MOTORHOME AND SEEP INTO THE MOTOR HOME. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: GENERATOR EXHAUST GASES INSIDE OF THE MOTORHOME CAUSES CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING WHICH COULD RESULT IN DEATH TO OCCUPANTS.

Remedy: REROUTE AND/OR MODIFY GENERATOR EXHAUST SYSTEM TO ASSURE THAT EXHAUST PIPE REMAINS OPEN, UNBROKEN, AND EXTENDS PAST THE SIDE OR END OF THE BODY.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
86V155000 · Exterior Lighting:Headlights:Switch

Reported: 1986-11-20 (November 20, 1986) · Model years: 1985

UNDER CERTAIN ELECTRIC LOAD CONDITIONS, THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH MAY HAVE SOME INTERNAL PLASTIC DEFORMATION. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT MAY OPEN RESULTING IN LOSS OF HEADLIGHT FUNCTION.

Remedy: ADD AN ELECTRICAL RELAY TO THE HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT TO SUPPLEMENT CURRENT CIRCUITRY.

NHTSA campaign record ↗
88V097000 · Electrical System:12v/24v/48v Battery:Cables

Reported: 1988-06-24 (June 24, 1988) · Model years: 1987, 1988

MISROUTED BATTERY CABLES COULD COME IN CONTACT WITH HOT OIL COOLER LINES OR SHARP OBJECTS AND DAMAGE THE INSULATION.

Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL SHORT AND POSSIBLY AFIRE.

Remedy: REROUTE AND REPLACE BATTERY CABLES AS NECESSARY.

Emerging complaint spikes

Complete months in the latest six months with at least 10 complaints, at least twice the preceding 12-month average, and at least three square-root deviations above that average.

This is a descriptive screening rule, not a statistical defect finding. Publicity and reporting changes can increase submissions.

No complete months meet the spike thresholds for this selection.

Equal-age model-year comparison

Model-wide cumulative reports during the first three or five calendar years, starting with the model year (age 0). Only fully elapsed windows are compared.

Incident date is preferred when valid and no later than filing; otherwise filing date is used. Model year approximates age. Equal observation time does not adjust for sales, distance driven or reporting delays. One complaint linked to multiple model years can appear in each cohort.
