Reported: 2025-11-14 (November 14, 2025) · Model years: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid vehicles. A manufacturing defect in one or more of the high voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure.

Consequence: Battery failure can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Battery failure can also increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will update the battery energy control module (BECM) and hybrid powertrain control module (HPCM), free of charge. Owners are advised to only use "Auto EV" mode and will be instructed by mail to limit the maximum charge of the battery until the remedy has been completed. Owner notification letters were mailed September 4, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25SC4. Vehicles in this recall were previously recalled under 24V954 and will need to have the new remedy performed. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 18, 2025.

I have owned the vehicle for 4 months & have had 5 total electrical failures. The car totally shuts down while driving in normal mode which is supposed to use the battery first & use the engine only if needed. In all cases the battery was charged enough (over 40%). In two cases, it occurred in my driveway. The other 3 occurred while driving (fortunately not in high traffic). I called the dealer on 4/20/22 but was not able to get an appointment until 4/26 because they are very busy. Seems like this can be a large safety issue & should be a …

Date: 3/7/2026 I am submitting this complaint regarding a potentially serious safety issue with my 2025 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid manufactured by Ford Motor Company. My vehicle began displaying multiple warning messages including “High Voltage Battery Warning,” “Powertrain Malfunction,” and “Service Engine Soon.” These warnings appeared while the vehicle was charging using a Level 2 charger, which raises significant concerns about the safety and reliability of the vehicle’s high-voltage electrical system. I have been without my new car since January 10, 2023 due to a design flaw in the Ford Escape Plug in Hybrid. Their inadequate undercarriage protection Ford is putting their owners at financial risk, and costing Federal and state taxpayers for a flawed product. I think this is related to NHTSA Recall 24V954. I experience loss of driving power at various times. This started about three months ago. It is intermittent. It used to be once or twice a week. Lately it is happening almost every day. Sometimes it is a minor annoyance, but sometimes it can result in a serious safety issue. When in electric mode, the car will suddenly lose driving power. Other power, such as radio, lights, etc., are not affected. This is most common when the car is stopped, e.g. at a red light, or driving at low speeds, when the…

I own a 2022 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid, which is affected by Recall 24S79 (NHTSA Recall 24V954). This recall involves a high-voltage battery defect that could result in a fire or sudden loss of vehicle control while driving. Ford has confirmed that there is no fix available until at least the second quarter of 2025, leaving affected owners without a solution for well over a year. However, Ford refuses to provide loaner vehicles, rental reimbursement, or any safe alternative for customers forced to continue driving these potentially dangerous v…

Panoramic sun shade detached from rails and recoiled into the assembly while driving on the highway. The shade was in a static position when it happened- it was not being retracted at the time. Available for inspection, but has already been repaired by dealer. A very loud cracking noise was heard when it happened, which startled me and could have caused an accident. It is a relatively new car and had been retracted probably a total of 20 times. There was no warning, and the entire headliner, pillars, and glass had to be removed to repair. It is…

I am writing to formally express my concern regarding the safety of my 2022 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), which I believe may have been rushed to market without sufficient development or reliability testing. As Ford’s first iteration of the Escape PHEV, it appears to suffer from multiple critical defects that suggest the technology was not fully ready for consumers. In less than 2.5 years of ownership, I have experienced the following serious safety-related issues: The vehicle is currently under recall for a defective high…

My PHEV car randomly and suddenly has loss of propulsion creating a safety hazard in traffic. It seems to occur at low speeds, sometimes from waiting in line at an intersection. This fault produces a solid red battery warning light, but no additional safety warnings, nor an error code for diagnostics. I have experienced this fault randomly in April, May, and June. The worst experience was within intersection traffic when I was unable to accelerate; just coasted with cars whizzing past. My usual dealership servicing staff were unable to rep…

Given those failures, I have concerns about warning lights that may not be working. The lack of proper speed indication increases the possibility of a collision. The lack of presence of the digits that are supposed to be there has been distracting and increases the possibility of a collision. Note: This seems to be the same or similar to a defect in the gas version of this model…

The fire risk in the engine compartment recall has been issued for this vehicle since May 2023. The remedy is supposed to be available by Oct 2023. Yet at my recent visit to the dealer for the recall repair in Dec 2023 revealed that no remedy is available. The owner of this vehicle is forced to operate the vehicle with the risk of catastrophic engine failure and subsequent fire. It is a major safety concern.

I want to know why there has been no remedy for the 23V380 recall. A remedy was anticipated in October 2023. Also, I got notice of a new recall Ford campaign #23E09 regarding reprogramming the PCM for emissions. When I enter 23E09 on your Web site it takes me to the 23V380 recall. Are they related? Either way Ford is still saying there is no remedy yet for either.
