Owner report 11514995 · 2023-04-02 (April 2, 2023)

The brakes sporatically cause you to jerk to a stop when you are all almost completely stop (under 5MPH). This is a dangerous issue when in heavy commuter traffic as the following vehicle may not be prepared for what is a complete emergency stop while other traffic continues to flow at slow speeds. Ford has released numerous TSBs to fix this issue but none of them have truly fixed the problem.

Owner report 11515490 · 2023-04-04 (April 4, 2023)

Brakes of 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid are grabby when attempting to slow down to below 6-10 mph , especially when the roads are wet. Even with slight wetness on the ground, the brakes behave like this, leading to unpredictable stops and jumping of vehicle in common scenarios such as drive-thrus, stop-and-go traffic, and parking lots. Local Ford dealer attempted to replicate the issue when it was sunny and dry and was unable to do so. As such, they refuse to do any further testing and are saying that "this is how the hybrids are". Six month old Vehicle has failed to start twice in the last 3 days. The dealership looked at the vehicle but didn’t isolate a problem for repair. Fear is that the electrical system will shut down while driving and will lose control of the vehicle in traffic. OR will stop in a dangerous situation hazardous to me or other motorists. This has happened twice in the last 3 days.

The truck shudders when turning off the ICE and switching to electric. It has progressively gotten worse since around 5000 miles. Group research on online forums suggests this is the damper on the flywheel. Because it's progressively getting worse, even at 8000 miles, I am concerned it will leave me stranded when the whole transmission blows apart. It makes an awful noise that sounds like grinding when the shuddering occurs. It does not happen every time the engine turns off, but the entire transition between electric and ICE is extremely rough…

When I am driving my car and the car goes from the gas engine to the electric engine (at slow speeds. Usually under 40mph) the steering wheel and car will shack or vibrate. Sometimes really violently or sometimes just a little. Now my car makes a really bad rattling sound like metal is bouncing around. Ford saids it’s normal. When using remote start (cold mornings here) the truck will run for 15 minutes. Both inside and outside the vehicle I smell what seems like plastic burning. Eninge started knocking, flashed warnings to pull over immediately. I did and had the vehicle towed to Westway Ford in Irving. Their investigation showed the engine needs a full rebuild and they are claiming it is not covered under warranty. They shared pictures & a written repair estimate. Doing an analysis of the pictures they took and their description of what happened, combined with what I experienced and observed, this appears to be a textbook case of the behavior and outcome of the mechanical failure described in recall 23S27.

This vehicle has chronic clicking when turning , when taken to a mechnanic i was informed the CV Axles both were torn and that it was a common issue for the 22 ford mavericks and they issue replacements for free. At around 27K miles the two front CV axles began to fail. I brought it to the Ford dealership and they confirmed that both needed to be replaced. It was a $1600 repair. There have been a lot of complaints from Ford Maverick owners who have had CV axle failures at very low miles on their vehicles. These parts typically last 100K to 150K miles and it's not unusual for them to last the lifetime of the vehicle. There is no reason both front CV axles should be failing with 27K miles on a vehicle. This should be covered by a recall.

Truck started to shake when accelerating past 50 mph. The shaking would stop once the speed limit was reached and you let off the accelerator. There has not been an incident where this has resulted in an accident, but it makes me feel like I don't have control of the vehicle if I can't anticipate braking behavior on perfectly dry, smooth surfaces. While on the interstate, the vehicle suddenly shut off, leaving the instrument panel fully lit with every warning light. The vehicle was unresponsive and powerless, posing an extremely hazardous situation for myself, passengers and others on the road. Was traveling at around 60 mph and multiple lights and warnings came up on the dash “powertrain malfunction” and “service advancetrac”. Power was reduced to a limp mode and I was forced to pull over on the highway. This happened within a week of having multiple software recalls carried out by a ford mobile technician. A couple of weeks after getting some software (or maybe firmware?) recalls done on my Ford Maverick my husband and I were driving down a semi-residential street. Was driving my Maverick in a 35mph area an it felt like it had a 'sloppy" transmission shift and immediately lost power. It did not shut down, but with the gas engine running it had a top speed around 35mph and extremely slow acceleration, I had to use my 4way flashers. When it went into electric mode (hybrid) it would accelerate without any pressure on the throttle. Very dangerous. Check engine light, transmission light (wrench), and front collusion light all came on. When I got home and turned it off, then on again, it seemed to run like norm…

Turned the corner to accelerate at normal speed up a slight incline, and gas pedal stopped working. Typically when accelerating up a hill, the gauge on the left will move past the green "battery" section and the engine will kick on, but this time nothing happened. The vehicle slowed to a stop, and I put in park, then put in drive again and it worked seemingly fine. No check engine or any other warning lights were on. This issue has been experienced by several people in the Ford Maverick Hybrid online forum, so I'm not alone. I'm concerned tha…

Driving on highway when all warning lights came on the dash, including the messages: AdvanceTrac Off Collision Assist Off Parking Break On Service System Soon. My brakes and accelerator stopped working, and the car immediately started slowing down. I started pulling over but didn't even make it all the way out of the lane. I changed gears, but could not go Forward, emergency brake was on but wouldn't let me turn it off. It did let me put my hazards on. I kept attempting to change gears, and eventually the emergency brake went off and I could sh…

Vehicle will not accelerate faster after stopping. Runs at less than 5 mph for 3-4 minutes and will accelerate afterwards. If stop again it will continue stalling during acceleration. Very unsafe in traffic. Rear end collision would take place as the driver id that vehicle is not aware of the stalling.

I have owned my 2023 Ford Maverick for, coming up on 14 months. It's been well taken care of it, serviced every 2-3 months, and not driven hard or abused. Last month the engine shuts off as the truck is parked in a gym parking lot. My FordApp was reading a powertrain malfunction. The truck gets towed to the dealership for servicing. Their go-to fix for the error code is to replace a module for the hybrid battery. After doing so the truck broke down a second time 2 minutes after starting up. A Ford engineer looked into it and decided the solutio…

I was driving around in city traffic and all of the sudden a message popped up on my screen that said "gear will engage at lower speed" and lost all power. I coasted into the nearest parking lot and it slammed me to a stop when i got slow enough and put the parking brake on. It then thew a bunch of codes saying service soon, something regarding advancetrak, and the check engine light came on. I then turned the car off and back on which made only the check engine light come on so i tried to at least make it home and i accelerated to 20mph and lo…

I have had this issue since I got my Ford Maverick. The brakes are very abrupt and grabby at slow speeds and it makes the vehicle extremely difficult and unsafe to operate in pick up lanes, parking lots, stop and go traffic and many more situations. I had a service appointment where ford updated modules in the truck however, still have the problem where trying to use the brakes on this truck, is always a very abrupt bump to a stop. When you're gradually & smoothly decelerating to a stop, near the last moment you get a very abrupt bump, lur…

I have an issue where my Ford Maverick sometimes, randomly will be nudging, surging, or pulsing forward (I'm not sure how to describe it) despite your foot being on the brake. It occurs most often on cold mornings, when you first start the truck, have your foot on the brake and shift from park to drive, before you release the brake (take your foot off the pedal) you notice the truck is going: bump bump bump bump bump, like a forward nudge push forward. Even though this has mostly occurred first thing in the morning it has occurred at other…

For no reason the truck would not start. No electric signal at all inside the truck either. Also the ignition and steering were locked. Called Ford to send out someone to jump the truck. I also have had a problem with the truck not starting after driving it and then parking it. The battery will not respond, igniton will not work, not able to shift it at all. Completely locked up. This morning I was driving to work (65mph cruise control, 45 degrees F outside, heated seats ON), out of nowhere I felt myself slowing down right after I went over a railroad track (pretty decent bump) on the highway. The truck was being towed behind a motor home, while making a normal left turn from a complete stop the truck began swing wildly from side to side (death wobble). After stopping I found a dash warning "Steering Assist Fault, Service Required" and "Drive Mode Not Available". At that time the truck steering was very difficult to turn, the truck was not drivable. This is the second time this has happened. In June 2024 the exact same thing happened. Ford replaced the steering assembly (twice, the first part was defective) under warranty. I believe …
